Good Radar Scanner

Im not sure if this question belongs on the cobalt forum but at least you could argue that it is a car related question and my only sports car is a cobalt so im asking...im looking for a good radar scanner. i have 0 points on my license, 0 ticket and 0 criminal record and i want keep it that way. but sometimes my foot can get a little heavy on the gas pedal like it did tonight...thank god the cop gave me a warning because of my good record. but i want to prevent encounters like this from happening. my cousin was telling me to look into getting a radar scanner and that it has saved his ass plenty of times but to get a good one that wont be set off by stupid things like automatic door sensor and stuff like that. so i was looking around on amazon for something that would be easily affordable but effective and i came across this.

Cobra SPX 7800BT Maximum Performance Bluetooth Radar Laser & Camera Detector With Additional Mirror Mount and Mirror Wire

https://www.amazon.com/Cobra-Perform...ct_top?ie=UTF8

what do you guys think? good buy? im not trying to spend more than 120 bucks on something like this but i dont want something ineffective. any ideas?

Valentine one, escort, k40 are the only 2 companies worth anything.

If you want to 100% prevent tickets stay lay off your heavy foot on public roads. Radar detectors are not a 100% solution

its still better than nothing. and sometimes i want to enjoy my car...but where can i go to do that? 10:30 at night with no one else on the roads is a good time for a joy ride in my opinion. and there are a few delightful roads in my area where even the most tame of drivers wont be able to resist giving their ride a little gas from time to time....its only natural...

I had a cheap Cobra. It chirped occasionally. Then it quit working and I still didn't get a ticket. I realized I don't speed.

The cop has to be either lazy or on a busy street for the Cobra to help you. Lazy as in he's just keeping the radar on. The Valentine or escort will do a better job at detecting pulses at distances.

its actually illegal in the state of PA to have a radar scanner. so if you get one your going to have to hide it pretty well, like at the top of your a pillar on the windshield and run the wires down through the a pillar

Radar Scanners of any type are illegal in Canada. A friend of mine had his confiscated years ago.

Also, If you do get pulled over with a scanner and the cop sees it I would think the cop would be more apt to give you a ticket because if you have a radar you clearly have an intention to speed.

So far for me just telling the cop the truth and apologizing has gone a long ways. Hell one time I was out doing a data log and doing a full 3rd gear pull to redline (~100mph) out in the middle of nowhere and all the sudden I see headlights coming over the top of the hill so I got on my brakes hard immediately. The sheriff clocked me at 85 in a 65. I explained to him about the data logging and how I had to go WOT to get the right data and that I had scoped the area out to make sure I wasn't putting anyone else in danger, that I thought there wasn't anyone for miles. He let me go with a verbal warning.

But like you say, I think the only reason I got away with this is because my record is clean.

the cop that pulled me over last night says he thinks i was going 60 in a 40...he told me that he didnt have his radar on but that was just an estimate...but i feel like i was going 70 or 80 honestly....i was just blaring music and driving my car around. haha. so much fun in my opinion.
think my stage 3 cobalt with 266/244 whp/wtq could have outran one of those ford taurus interceptors?

One thing that is also tough is driving a flashy car. Cop can call it in and let you run.

Just go 5 over and be done with it.

Last I heard (which was quite a while ago) is that many states have laws against it, but the scanner proponents argue that FCC rules state that you cannot outlaw anything design to receive radio transmissions. So basically if you get a ticket it's up to you to argue it but you may have a way out. Personally I decided a while ago that it's not worth the effort so I don't speed and don't have a scanner.

Canada is just loco.

A scanner in the dash will be much less effective than one at the top of the windshield. If it's below the hoodline, forget about it. Also, upper left corner of the windshield is not likely to be seen by the cop that pulls you over when you get a ticket.

Don't ask if you can outrun a cop. Not a good idea, even theoretically. Ditto what FLASH said.

That's probably the actual reason he let you off.

New police cars are low to mid 14 second cars, you aren't going to pull away real fast.

not that i even want to run from the cops or anything...it just got me thinking when the guy was behind me...is his car as fast as mine? lol. maybe once the ported head and cams go in...then do the E85 tune. i guess ill have a much better chance then. but this is all hypothetical. i have no interest in running from cops. i was just curious.

that is not to impressive. a stock supercharged cobalt goes 0-60 in like 6 seconds....and mine is def not stock. lol. and for the stock power ratings, its 205 hp and 200 tq or something like that but is that at the wheels or crank?
