TVS with 2.7 Pulley

I have a TVS 1320 on the way. It was sold with a 2.7 pulley. I am in the middle of a full engine rebuild and also have the valve springs with titanium retainers so I can tune to 8k rpm. What other supporting mods I need to run it with no hesitation and fueling issues, blown engine, pulling timing etc? I looked through other threads but no specific answers. I already have a ZZP untuned pcm, and full exhaust no cat. Intake coming soon.

should be fine but you will need to up your fueling - e85 to handle the timing, big injectors, likely a brfs to supply it through big injectors (80#'s cut it for most people)

Trevor Jolley makes a great fuel sump to run inline

Accommodates up to 4 more pumps (you'll only need one aem320lp)

Go on Cobalt SS gang or any of the groups on FB.

What are you doing about the head outside of valves?
Rotating assembly getting an ATI? You deleting the WATER PUMP for an EWP? Balance shaft delete?

i live really close to him. i was trying to explain to him today that its gonna cost 2k or so in that head to make 400hp. port/polish both sides, and replacing the valve springs, retainers, cams, and arp head studs. im sure im forgetting something

Easily $1000 in just porting, and prepping the head.

I don't want to do any head work because I don't know anyone in Memphis area that does it correctly for Cobalt engines with upgraded blower etc. Trevor Jolley deleted his facebook. ATI? Where to find the other water pump? Balance shaft delete??

I am basically trying to run the minimum needed to run on 93 octane and run 2.7 pulley.

Can't run E85 because I want the car to be taken out of town etc with no fueling issues.

Why a 2.7 pulley?
93 octane doesn't have enough detonation resistant for a 2.7 TVS pulley.

You're far better off keeping it pulley'd up to a 3.1 for close to 300whp on 93.

Trevor Jolley did not delete his FB

It says content not available when I search for him.
The TVS came with a 2.7. So I guess I have to buy a 3.1.

What are your thoughts one meth/water injection? I would think you could almost get away with only valve springs in the head (redline at 7,500 instead of 8, if you want to got to 8,000 rpm you will need balance shaft delete as well) and a 2.7" pulley with methanol injection on 93. I ran a 2.9" pulley on 91 with L61 engine and I couldn't get more than about 13 degrees of timing advance. Now I have 2X-6gph meth nozzles running 50:50 mix and am able to run full 24 degrees on a 2.9" pulley with 91 octane fuel. If you are going to pay for a TVS swap I would think you would want to try and squeeze more power out of it than a 3.1" pulley. 3.1" pulley seems overly cautious

I will buy it from you. Email information to buy bigmajin25@gmail.com you are talking about the TVS pulley and not the stock blower pulley just to be sure?

I want the most power out of it running 93 octane without porting heads, ati damper, balance shaft delete, cams, or water methanol. I just want a simple quick build. Thinking so far, valve spring kit, full exhaust with long tube header combo from zzp, intake from zzp, hpt turning, heat exchanger from zzp, and option b. I just personally don't want to have to keep monitoring water meth measurements etc. Basically nothing I have to keep up with.

I understand not wanting to mess with it but I think it is worth it. I didn't want to mess with it either, actually was saying the exact same thing as you but I was disappointed with the power I was leaving on the table. You could get a meth kit for less than the LT header and it will yield you more power than the intake, heat exchanger, option b and long tube header combined. You wouldn't need ported heads or cams. You wouldn't need and ATI or balance shaft delete unless you are wanting to rev to 8k. I have my redline set at 7.5k with springs only on stock L61 cam. They say if you go over 7k an ATI is beneficial but if you just hit it on a pull every now and again it is fine to go up to 7.5k. I mostly shift before 7,000 unless I am drag racing or something.

So if I got the meth kit how much do you have to refill the bottle? I have a bit of a lead foot and stay in it all day.

How far do you drive in boost at a time? I am utilizing 2 windshield washer fluid reservoirs on each side just because like you are probably concerned, I never wanted to run dry. So that puts my capacity at a little over 2 gallons I think. Every time I have refilled I have never put more than a gallon in and it is usually no more than 1/2 gal. For like a full autocross event with 5-6 runs I only used about a 1/2 gallon. The time I used the most at once was when I went drag racing. I did 5 passes and I think it was closer to 3/4 of a gallon that time.

That is one thing about some of the single gallon tanks is I like to have a little more cushion. Might have to get a little creative to come up with a different tank or multiple tanks.

I have a progressive controller that starts injection at 2 psi boost and is on full by 10psi on up.

get a 3.1 pulley and put the blower on and tune it you do not need a ported head, cams valve springs, or neutral balance shafts or a delete kit, or a ******* meth kit or a header and no ati and you can spin it 7500 rpm even though there is no need to the cams fall off 7200 the only thing you need is a set of injectors you can run 60s but would be better off with 80s

Why people always say don't run 80lb injectors unless it's E85? I heard that the 80lb is too rich and burns a lot of gas at idle and daily driving for long trips. On the old tvs thread a lot of builds always have 60lb injectors.

Wondered if I would offend you posting in the 2.0 LSJ Section. OP does NEED a meth kit if he wants to use the 2.7" pulley. If he wants to play it safe, the boring 3.1" pulley is a fine option.

I would also like to ask you why the 80 pound injectors (especially with 3.1"). It will make idle more difficult so what is it's advantage?

Nothing boring about a 3.15 pulley.
It's a very respectable 290-300whp setup on 93 octane, using minimal mods.

It's the optimal choice for his modifications, driving habits, and fuel.

Stock cams on a TVS w/ a larger pulley will flatten and peak close to 7200 RPM.

(4000 RPM X 6.5 CP) / 3.15 = 8253.96 SC RPM
(5000 RPM X 6.5 CP) / 3.15 = 10317.46 SC RPM
(6000 RPM X 6.5 CP) / 3.15 = 12380.95 SC RPM
(7000 RPM X 6.5 CP) / 3.15 = 14444.44 SC RPM

OP will be between 2.1 and 2.3 pressure ratio (16 - 19 PSI) the entire pull.
Blower efficiency will fall into the 65-60% range through the pull.

Oh yea! A nice safe motor that you won't be afraid to beat the ***** of. You won't be dealing with a ton of aftermarket buying, fitting and tweaking. But then again some of us are drivers that have the need to beat it and some have the need to tinker with it. It's all good!

Good data. Never said 3.1" is a bad choice just that he has other options without doing a complete head job to run a smaller pulley.

Although I do have a little higher displacement due to stroke my boost pressure with the 2.9" pulley maxes out about 17-18 psi. It is right around 15 psi during most of the pull. Just saying that because the level of boost you listed for a 3.1" is similar to what I make with a 2.9" Just something that I thought was intriguing even though it doesn't really pertain to our discussion.
