Thumbs down no fuel pressure from fuel rail

its a 09 cobalt ls wit the 2.2 i checked the coils then stuck a nail into the schrader valve and didnt get sprayed wit gas like i was expecting soo i checked the fuel pump fuse n swapped the relay wit another n basically i think i need a fuel pump but would like a 2nd opinion or info on how i can test that the pump is getting power any help is greatly appreciated/ lmk if youve had this problem and wat ur fix was

reach under the car with a rubber mallet or a 2x4 and smack the fuel tank a few times. if the car starts, its a dead fuel pump for sure.

i hit it with a board a few times n it didnt start but ill try it again just gotta really hit the **** outa it prolly lol

its actually best to try hitting it while someone is in the car cranking it over.

thanks guys it started b4 i just hit it then tried to start it but this time had my dad crank it while i slapped the **** outta the tank n it started the second i hit it lol any idea how long itll work til it craps out again?

anywhere between 1 second and 100 years. its likely the brushes are worn out in the fuel pump and thats causing the issue. at this point the pump should be considered dead and it will likely leave you on the side of the road if you drive it.

most likely. if u replaced the pump whered u order it from? autozones cheapest pumps like 250 bux

parts store, rockauto, wherever. consider yourself lucky, the pump for my 05 ss/sc was $430 canadian.

400 bux???? **** me sideways lol i hope my ss's pump dont die :/ so the pumps say they dont come with fuel level sender or strainer. are those on the pump or are the like apart of the tank itself? its been confusing me n idk if wen i get the pump i gota swap **** from the old pump to new one

for my car it was the whole basket assembly, and 05 ss/sc is its own pump and basket setup, hence the price.

well it finally died at my house luckily. soo theirs supposed to b a special tool to take off the lines to the cannister n the fuel line goin to the engine, do u remember what tool u bought/ wat size it was? or is it just the squeeze fitting

Just get the little fuel line release tool kit from an auto parts store, it's got all the sizes. The car uses two, I think they are 8 and 10mm but you can use the standard ones in the kit. I think you only need them for the fuel filter though, the ones at the pump should be regular squeeze in fittings.

thanks!! also the pumps ive looked at say they dont come with the fuel level sender or external strainer. what are they? ive only been doin basic stuff on my cars like brakes n suspension work so im kinda learnin as i go here lol
