How-To: Remove Cobalt Front Bumper

How-To: Remove Cobalt Front Bumper

How-To: Removing Front Bumper For The 2005-2007 Chevy Cobalt

Tools Needed:
----------------
Sockets
Socket Wrench
Philips Screw Driver
Flat Head Screw Driver

Ok lets get started!

1. First you must remove the headlights by the 2 bolts. I believe there 10mm.


2. Remove Headlight from car by just wiggling it and then unplug the wireharness and set aside headlights.

3. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the headlight brackets in place and set aside.



4. Now that you have removed both headlights & brackets, you can now remove the plastic clips that are attached to the grill & frame of the car. There right behind the grill on the top next to the hood latch. You must pry them off with a flat head screw driver.

5. Now you can start unbolting the bumper. There are 3 bolts on each side under where the headlights sat. Pic shows 2 but theres 3.


6. Once those bolts are undone, there are 3 more small bolts in the wheel well. Look on the side of your car where you fendor and bumper meet and from that line down un bolt the 3 bolts in the wheel well

7. Continue down along the bumper and you will notice it changes to philips screws. un screw all them as well, all the way around to the other side.

8. Now If your an ls lt ltz, get underneath your front bumper and behind the lower center grill you will notice 2 more plastic clips. pry them out. For ss bumpers its the same but when i recieved my ss bumper it did not have holes for those clips.

9. Now carefully pull lift and tug the bumper till it comes off.

and you end up with this ugly mug

Sweet, awesome how too, Ive been wondering this for awhile. Cant wait to get that SS bumper soon, just need to find out how much it will cost to be painted

I have a few things i want to do this summer that is going require bumper removal. Good how to, thanks!
Do you have a pic of the back of the ls bumper ide like to see what im getting in to before ripping MY bumper off.

i will be doing the rear cover once i get my hands on a ss rear or ings rear.

no they didnt but he didnt hit me in the front he hit on the edge of the fender and ripped across the front....

thanks for poppin this one back up on top...

im thinking about doing this instead of jacking the car and removing the wheel for the intake install. hmmm but i guess the fog lamps are in there too...probably same process as headlights.

Not to sound like a ***** (your write up is great), but there is alot easier way to do this:
First remove the 3 7mm bolts from either wheelwell
Now there will be 2-3 more 7mm (or philipss crews underneath) remove those
Next pry back splash shield and there is a 10mm bolt (one perside) you have to remove
Now dont forget the 2 plastic retainers right above the grille
Also you have to remove I believe around 4 plastic retainers on your rad support

**Not bashing his How-To, just posting an alternative way to remove it**

turbo charged

i own a 2.2l cobalt ls. i am lookin into turbocharging it. did u do the instal urself? if so how complicated was it. and have u tuned it?
