Quaife LSD install after the warranty runs out or before

Hey I really wish I had gotten a car with the G85 but I found this car on my dealers lot so I jumped at it. Anyways I love the car just wish I had an LSD. Question is should I buy the LSD and have my dealer do the install or should I wait until the tranny is no longer covered under warranty?

Have the dealer do it, if it's covered under the warranty. If not, suck it up and wait. If you have traction problems in first, stop dumping the clutch, it will move just fine. I have achieved my best quarter mile time of 14.707@96.1mph by rolling off the clutch. Around tax season I plan on looking into the LSD if it's covered, if not I'll wait. This might be good for .2, I can most likely get a 14.5 with cooler weather with the car as is. That's pretty good in my book for a stock 4 banger!

I haven't dumped my clutch. I am still breaking her in. It has around 600 miles as of today. I was just curious for the future, I know the LSD is around $1500.00 so with other parts I am figuring around $2200.00 with parts and install. The only way I would do it now is if GM sells it through their parts department and we can have it done by the dealer and still keep the warranty.

I would be a little leary of having my transmission tore apart and re assembled by the dealer service dept just for an LSD. Even if it's under warrenty it's not going to be as nice as if it was put together at the factory. I think it's just asking for problems. You're asking a tech to do an very complex and detailed job that he more than likely has never done before on a specialized, non GM transmission (Saab).

I didn't get the G85 package either because it was offered after I placed my order and I wish I had it too, but I think in the long run the possible risks of having your car ripped apart and reassembled in a non quality controlled environment just isn't worth it.

I have read of some saturn folks having it done for about $2500 bux. There is a TON of labor involved.

I looked into having this done as well. Actually had the dealer call GM to find out what they recommended. According to GM because of the amount of work involved in installing the Quaife LSD they recommended replacing the whole tran's at a grand total cost of $3,500. (I found that a little heavy handed)

So I'm going to end up waiting for a while, a long while before I have one installed. Right now its just not worth the cost.

G85 is the option code for the Quaife LSD and Recaro seats, they are a 1500 dollar option on the Cobalt SS/SC.

I just got back from the dealer because i was thinking about putting in a LSD as well. I couldnt believe that the want 4500$ CAN (3700 US) for an LSD before install. I was like u gotta be f**king kidding me. If anyone gets this done or knows where I can get a LSD, let me know.

For now its alright but when im +300hp that LSD will be needed.
