Hey guys we K&N buyers need help.

Cory and friends, I think we need some answers from people who really know what they are talking about (you guys). Nearly everyone who has purchased a k&n typhoon for their cobalt ss now has a lean check engine light. Do you have any ideas of why this is? Is there any truth to cleaning the maf fix? Someone had their dealership install it, and they still got a lean code.

Will this car really 're-learn' and adjust? Some people have had the code for 800+ miles already. It doesn't seem to be relearning anything. Do you think the gm stage reflashed will fix this? Is a reflash the only thing that will fix this?

I and many people are strongly considering returning our intakes. If you pay $200+ and install the part you bought correctly, it should work, period. But now, all of our cars are throwing tantrums because of the 'extra air' flowing through.

This has been a mamoth over sight by k&n. A company with there resources should have been able to do enough testing to come across a problem, such as this, which is now so wide spread.

You guys are bar none, the most active company on these forums, and that alone makes this forum even more fun to be a part of. But we need your advice. Please.
Help us Obi Wan you're our only hope!

Good luck with the CEL's guys. K&N should be addressed with this issue if they haven't been already. Our luck is they will tell us we rushed them too quickly to make a product and they didn't have time to test it before releasing to the public. I think they pushed this thing to have it be ready for SEMA showcase.

I still haven't gotten a CEL yet. I love modding. Think my next mod will be a shifter

I think the only way it's going to get fixed is with an ECU reprogram and hopefully that is one of the things listed with the Stage 1 and 2 kits

Maverick, I'm glad to see you've addressed the issues that maybe concerning me soon. Like many others, yesterday I installed my K&N Typhoon. All went well and the only CEL was the KAM which is now gone. But if I do get a lean code what is K&N going to do about it?

I think that the fact that K&N is one of the primary leaders in air intakes and systems that they should work with GM to get this resolved, i.e. make our computers more intelligent for the modified air.

We are at the point where the customer needs the company the most, for support.

I agree, I was looking into buying the K&N Intake for my '06 SS/SC, but I am now concerned about all the issues people are having with them. I especially do not want to void my warranty...

The CEL is whats keeping me from getting the K&N CAI. I'll probably get the Injen CAI, it seems they aren't throwing too many lean codes. Having an ECU flash would do the trick if it's bringing in too much air, but if it has to do with the MAF placement, that can only be fixed by K&N. This is definitely an issue that should be addressed to K&N. Good luck everyone and I hope this issue gets resolved.

Same here. I'm also curious about the speculated GM CAI and how it will compare.

It's not just the K&N intake.... it's the people who have done the AirBox Mod as well with a cone filter.. no preffered brand.... I think the oil from the filter gets on the MAF idea has nothing to do with it at this point. Our settings for the A/F raio are so tight there is no room to play unless we get the PSI-FI kit or wait till GM starts doing these ECU reflashes with the Stage Upgrades. I've noticed myself, because I did the AirBox mod, that driving normal I will not get a CEL but once i start gettin on the gas a little bit the CEL will come on. By gettin on the gas the engine sucks in more AIR and the computer doesn't dump enough fuel into the engine which then cause the LEAN P0171 code. I honestly believe this has NOTHING to do with just the K&N Intake. But it has happened to everyone who tried to put a filter on to get more air into the engine. I'm almost positive this will go away once the ECU reflash comes out with the Stage Upgrades

The P0171 code is triggered off the MAF not the 02 sensor. It's not a reactive code based on engine A/F ratio but a proactive code based of a MAF signal out of expected range.
There is no A/F feedback to the PCM when it's in open loop and every snap shot I have seen showed the P0171 triggered from the MAF signal and TPS over 85%.

It's not the specific intake per say, but a very touchy sensor range needed to keep the system happy.

Do a search on any boosted MAF based vehicle forum and you'll see that K&N, Injen, DC, etc all have had issues with P0171 codes on intakes. Start with WRX.

I have myself whitnessed no improvement at all and sometime some dyno loss on the SS/SC with aftermarket high flow filters and CAI. After doing some testing, I think that companies who claims as high as 15 WHP gains for a high-flow filter (CAI), especially for the SS with his tricky MAF sensor, are totally wrong. That's why I am selling my Fujita Intake.

If that's the case then the ECU flash should fix the problem, hopefully.

There's way to many people getting 171 code from doing this mod. Please let us know if you and k&n are working on a fix. When you guys advertised this mod you said no engine lights. Then when I talked to you guys on the phone you said it took about a month for yours to shut off. Well as you can see we need a little insight with this problem. So please post up. I bought all my mods from you guys and will continue to do so. I'm tired of driving my car with the engine light illuminated. Thanks for you time.
