Porting Supercharger
hi guys... what does porting a supercharger really do? does increase performance, sound? how much should be dremeled away?
Also, filling in the supercharger silencer slots...since they are so close to the outlet of the SC, doesnt it defeat the purpose of the porting? are those slots next to the triangle really silencers or are they for another purpose and people are just wrong about them? thx in advance

porting the blower will make it easier for the air to flow through it. it should reduce heat by a small margin. no noticeable power will be gained. as for that retarded idea of filling in the silencer holes... just dont do it. youre creating a new restriction when you do that, and yes.. it defeats the purpose of the porting. when i did mine, i just made them slightly bigger, and smoothed them over. (my s/c did get slightly quiter, but i dont give a shit

Porting increases the cfm and slightly decreases the psi. Same power at lower psi, with a little less heat 10 degrees or so

what i don't understand is that after people have finished porting the SC they say it whines louder anyway...meanwhile they are enlarging the SC Silencers...how does that happen?!?! lol

My silencers were just smoothed out, not enlarged. I also have a 2.6" on, so that lends to the sound

i dont care what anyone says or how many people said they did theirs and it was easy. Dont port your blower unless you actaully have knowledge and skill when it comes to porting.

We are a full service Supercharger rebuilding and repair facility. We don't outsource our repair work as many competing repair shops do. Please call or e-mail our office for current pricing. Eaton Rebuilding Procedures The unit is fully disassembled and all parts checked for wear, the case is thoroughly inspected for rotor rub. Front drive is completely disassembled. The shaft is checked for straightness, all bearings and seals are replaced. Front drive coupler is inspected for wear- Replaced if necessary. Front rotor drive plate bearings- Measured for wear (replace if necessary) Rotors are then phased to corrected position and assembled. Rotors are inspected for point wear and flaking, if your rotors are black they are Teflon coated, the wear on these are not accessible to flaking. If you have painted rotors that are gray and flaking we recommend stripping the rotors which eliminates any chance of further damage done from deteriorating finish. The supercharger case is completely inspected for rotor rub. The rub is from contact of the rotor during rotation. This is always evident and more prominent if rotor speeds were increased from smaller pulleys. These areas are marked for added clearance and machined to eliminate all rubbing. In addition to obvious wear issues, contact of rotors on a case will cause heat build up. Rear case bearings are inspected and greased, replaced if needed. All parts are high pressured washed at temp of 190 degrees for 30 minutes to ensure all components are absolutely clean. Reassembly then takes place ensuring all bearing press and tolerances are triple checked and torque set to factory specks. Supercharger oil is added and all other lubricants are fully synthetic and Hi heat tolerant. The outside of your supercharger case is inspected for paint imperfections and touched up if needed. The by-pass valve is installed and calibrated for correct boost-charge and climb. If your valve is broken we can most often fix these at a small cost, replacements are available. At time of rebuilding we can install a optional size pulley for increased boost we have many sizes available. Porting your supercharger is an option that will increase the efficiency of your blower, adds boost in many cases, and Lowers inlet air temps. Porting the blower also increases your HP. The exact amount of power gain is based on many factors. Some of the more important factors are your engine displacement, pulley size, headers/exhaust combination, ignition and plugs and the quality of your tune. For example, a properly tuned 03' Cobra with a reasonable choice of exhaust and pulley could improve as much as 50 HP (maybe more). However this same car with fouled out plugs and/or improperly gapped plugs may only gain half the HP. Basically the quality and combination of modifications will either amplify the effect of the ported blower or tend to mute it's effect. Also, please keep in mind that not all engines are equal. A Mini-Cooper motor simply does not have the capacity of air flow that a Cobra motor has. For instance, if you start with 150 HP and gain of 15 HP from your ported blower, that is the same percentage gain as a 400 HP engine gaining 40 HP.

When I ported my blower, I got 1 more pound of boost, and my IAT2 was reduced by 15-20 degrees. I felt a noticable difference in power afterward. Not to mention one of the loudest whines I've ever heard

unless they had ported it, then filled the silencer holes.. that is a like a double-negative.
that did sound mean as hell. but could you hear it whine from inside the car? or was it all exhaust.. like i have been experiencing. (i'm suffering from whine deprivation)

ya...with my new muffler, i can't hear my SC from the inside anymore either...but i know that you can hear it comin at you because i had my dad drive it while i stood outside...the whine is one of the best parts of the car IMO, so i want to be able to hear it again while i am driving.

before and after what? pictures? - there is plenty of those...and videos, there are a few of those as well
the way i see it- there are so many variables in terms of what people do to their own supercharger, therefore it is far too difficult to recreate another person's outcome. i do like blown's vid...sounds nice, but the way i think i am going to hit this thing is to fill the silencer slots, port the inlet and possibly clean the edges of the outlets since i will already have the thing apart. that might help to slightly balance out the rise in IAT that i will get from filling the silencers...i hope
