Winter tires? What kind, how much & where?

Ok,

I guess even though I've only had her for a week that I gotta switch up the tires with the snow here (living in Ottawa sucks like that).

Any suggestions? I know they dont make 18' snows and im looking to spend as little as possible. If from Ottawa, where did you go, what did you get, how much etc.

Thanks!!

I ordered some Dunlop DS-2s from work for $360USD for the set of 4. I work their so I will get them "written up for defects" in a few years and get them for free . Anyways, go find the cheapest wheels you can. Just look around like online or at local stores for 16X7 with a 5X110 bolt pattern.I went to discount tire and got them down to $64 a wheel (aluminum). I bought P215/55R16 and they seem to be identical in size to the 18s.

Okay, i have had a set of Yokohama Iceguard's for the last 2 years... they are great, almost too much snow worthieness really, they are quite loud at freeway speeds above 75 but make my integra unstopable in the snow. And that is really the truth, i owned a 5 speed zr2 blazer previously with BFG Long trails on it and with 4wd and all there is no comparison really... FWD + snow tires is a very safe setup and has been well worth the $400 i spent on the tires...

I got 4 205/60-R16 Dunlop Winter Sport M3s for $400US, 4 16" wheels off of a G6 for $65US each plus $30 shipping, and got them mounted and balanced for $70US. So about $760 in all.

I'm from ottawa myself. I've been calling around to places and the cheapest place I've found has been deals for wheels. I am sketch on getting the tires there as they sell "vikings" made by continental. They were 95 a tire installed + taxes. Mostly everywhere else has been 140+taxes. These are for size 195/60/15

If you find a good deal locally, let me know!1

G'day.. found via gm that I could get 4 x 16" steels for 59.99 a piece, then found a used tire place with 4 good used winters for $140 total! (GREAT deal there I think)... so the whole thing is going to cost me about $410ish total for my winter tires n rims.. and hopefully in the spring I'll get some good tires to put on the steels for racin'.. it's all comin together.. muu ha ha ha ;-)

ordered my winter set from www.tirerack.com

16x7 alluminum wheels $75 each
Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 215/55QR16 $104 each
mounted + balanced, set of lugnuts at no charge.

in the end including road hazard program and shipping = $867

Will be able to get multiple years out of them = far cheaper than a winter beater (once you include insurance on the beater, PLUS I'd want Blizzak tires on the beater anyway), plus a "decent" winter car is gonna be $1000 or more unless it's a bucket that will need repairs every other week etc. etc.
not to mention the " where do I have room for 2 cars ?? " issue (such as storing the SS, no way)

Only thing I will have to still worry about is other morons sliding around and smashing into me

also on the topic of winter, I'm waiting for my dealer to get the Engine Block Heater in so we can get that installed on my car (tonight it's gonna be -20F ) wish I woulda got that on sooner.

hmm well I've got a guy with the right tires.

My only problem is making sure his rims will fit my car. The bolt pattern looks the same (the 5 bolts) but how can I be sure they'll fit...?

He used to use them on an Audi A4.

1140 is pretty high! thats a lot to pay for all 4. If you're looking for a deal I'd be hunting for a price of 600ish.

Canadian Tire will get you setup for $800 fully installed.

Good Luck

not sure on the ones you have. GM quoted me 80 per rim and 189 per tire (thats with installation) but that was bad pricing.

I was just quoted today of being able to get into a set of 4 snow tires and wheels for under $700 installed on my new pursuit. That's size 195/60/15's so that might be why the huge difference in price. This was at Turpin's on carling.

I posted this back in August. Pretty much the same question. I hope it works for you!

225/50QR17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50
17x7.5 Sport Edition F2 Silver Painted

I just ordered these today. It was like 950 or so balanced and shipped
(will be here monday)from tirerack.com I was gonna drop down to 16,
but the price wasnt that much of an issue so i figured that 17 is nice.
I wanted the WS-50s because my brother has them on his
350hp 370tq Evo and they are great tires. The best winter tires you can get.
The only thing is that on dry pavement they are very sluggish. But its a
winter tire, and i would rather have them sluggish on dry but rock the snow,
then good on dry and just ok on the snow. Got a 3 year old in the back seat sometimes
and being safe on the snow in the winter is more important than going fast. (only when
he is in the car of couse)
