Ok so here is the deal. Ill be home in about 4 months and i plan on buying a new car.
Ive really been looking into ss/tc cobalts cus i do miss my old cobalt.
also Ive been looking into srt-4's bang for the buck kinda deal
but Ive also looked at a few gto's and other cars.
Im open to anything really.

Evo's are nice BUT, everyone and their mother has one and 95% of them have been beat to hell. OP, I have a question for you, What is the application for the car that you get? You looking at just being fast and doing meets, Drag Racing? Tracking?
G8 is a damn nice car!
Whoever recommended a 350z, slap yourself. They sound nice and that's about it. Do a google search for WHY Nissan publicly apologized for making that car. God I hate those cars.
VW's are very costly when it comes to modifying and you really don't get your "Bang for the buck". See how much an intercooler kit cost for one as an example. I know this cause I have a 1.8T GLi with Bolt on's etc, fun car.........for DDing!
If you go the mustang route make sure it's 11+. Camaro SS is a great looking car but heavy. Seen 2 at the track get totaled. STI's are good cars as long as you don't modify them. Once you do **** starts to go downhill from there(Good luck changing spark plugs on a Boxer). E46 M3 are just slow unless you get an Active Autoworks kit which can cost you upwards of 10-20K depending on your power goal(European, again expensive as hell).
The S2k is a hell of a car!!!! Solid Chasis and had the same attention from Honda engineers as the NSX. The block comes fully Forged from the factory, no need to build the engine what so ever for force induction. Turns on a dime. I have a buddy here in SD that has one making 730whp on the stock engine. Only downfall is that THERE IS NO ROOM in them.
Since you mentioned a Cobalt SS/TC, you could get a RWD LNF? They are fun as hell!
Ultimately, hope you get what your looking for. Drove a BRZ, good chasis but jesus that boxer blows for power. I say wait for the STI version to come out, that thing at the track will surprise a lot of people. Good Luck

Vette is a awesome choice in that price range. I have a buddy of mine that sold his C5 Z06 vette with some bolt on's making 477whp for 22k. I very muh think you should take that route.
