For an LNF you would need a these parts specific to these turbos. KO4 parts won't fit. Manifold, down pipe, oil feed and drain, wastegate, dump tube, bov on charge piping with maf relocate, coolant line blocked. You may be able to use your current cold air intake.

the sxe series is a middle ground between the standard s series and the efr. it uses a billet compressor wheel and 360 degree thrust bearing from the efr. it doesnt get the fancy stuff from the efr line though, the efr still gets a stainless exhaust housing, ball bearing, titanium-aluminide exhaust wheel, built in recirc valve, options for internal wastegate. from my observations, i wouldnt say the efr is a failure prone turbo, but the s series is such a robust turbo that yes, id say the s series is a more reliable turbo. as for the efr not being rebuildable, its not that it cant be rebuilt, its the fact that because of the exotic materials used in the efr they are very tough to balance and work with, as of right now borg warner is the only ones with the proper equipment to build them. add to that, borg warner will not sell parts to rebuild them.
the shop i work with has put a number of efr turbos on, mostly on rotary engines, and they havent seen any failures yet (aside from one where the customer put cheap egt probes in the manifold, and they fell apart, on a 2 day old 9180). the difference in performance compared to an s series is huge. way faster spool times, meaning more midrange torque and power near instantly after a gear change. they have yet to try any of the sxe line, seems customers want the more budget friendly s series, or the exotic efr. cost between an sxe and efr isnt that much, and if you factor in the internal wastegate of the efr, the end result is the efr being the smarter choice.
for our world, its really depends on what your doing. on an lnf, zzp takes that generic efr and turns it into a full bolt on. this is a far better option than having to replace the turbo manifold, downpipe, purchase an external wastegate, relocate the maf, etc. somebody could do the same with an s series or sxe if they wanted, however those dont come with an internal gate option, or an internal bpv, so it makes things a lot harder and they lend themselves better to a whole kit. for all the other engines (lsj, l61, le5, lap), the s series and sxe is a great option. you already have to buy a manifold, and a downpipe. your already going to have to deal with charge pipes/locating the maf and bov, oil lines, etc. so these turbos bring the cost way down. in the end you dont have as good a performing turbo, but still is a very good turbo.
so in the end, both have their places. and btw, killer pricing on those turbos josh
