tuning question
Hey guys well I was trying to tune my car yesterday but it was misfiring like crazy I have the ngk plugs that they sale at autozone so I was reading and they are the wrong ones, well my issue now is he told me I could try to re gap them at .28 and .30 to see if the misfires stop, but im thinking of buying the correct one that are the ngk laser 1LTR5D well to what i was reading, but they come gapped at .36 if I get them what is the gap I should put them at?. Im should be running between 21-22 psi HP tuned, I have typhoon k&n intake and turboxs high flow DP

I just bought the AC Delco OEMS online....I don't think with our mods that it warrants a .32 gap..
OEM gap is .35 and I always thought that the wider the gap, as long as your igntion is capable of firing the gap reliably is best for power...with more mods you gotta compensate but for an intake and downpipe and tune...maybe? maybe not? I used to gap it OEM on my SRT4 and then drop the gap until all was well ....but this Cobalt is new to me...!! Good luck bro,

I ran stock plugs stock gap for years on 22psi stock K04 without a single problem

Well I checked out my spark plugs and sure enough the tip looked like it was falling apart, it was missing some material on the sides so it was kinda looking like a 'V' shape I just replaced those plugs like 5 months ago so I just installed my old plugs that didnt look to bad I just replaced to have new plugs and start fresh with the car, the new plugs are gapped at .34 and im sure they are the oem plugs. Did a 3rd gear pull and no more misfires, I still gotta Do a few more to make sure everything is fine but I will once I get my new plugs I ordered that are the scdelco.

The larger the gap the more efficient spark you will get but it is also easier to "blow it out" people gap down their plugs when running righ boost high hp setups because of the increased cyl pressure it requires a stronger spark to ignite therefor the smaller gap is what works best.

I would be worried why you went through a plug so fast!! Detonation???

Well the car was running fine before and after the tune it was just on the pulls the spark would blow out, I also checked the gap and it was around .40 so im sure because of that and and pulls the plug got destroyed. And yeah in getting hp tuned im thinking of going to .32 not all the way down to .28

I've tune my friend on 26 psi stock plugs and gap no problen now we dropped to 24psi on NGKs I think and still no problems. Did it have the problem tuned or stock?

The problem came once I was tuned. Also I was getting road tune and not dyno tuned. The car would go strong on the stock 15psi but I wouldnt really go on it hard before as is my dd. Well to what I saw last night im 22psi tuned and with a .34 gap it worked like a champ but they are plugs with 61k miles on them so I will be replacing them by sat that the new ones arrive.
