17inch G5 GT radial/slicks
I know I know....lets beat a dead horse again. Another slick/radial thread.
I have two spare G5 GT wheels they are 17x7. I am looking for a sticky slick/ drag radial to run on these. I do not and will not have the car at the drag strip. These are for street runs in Mexico. I will not have these on the car full time. I will probably just throw them on when I know I am going to be having some fun with the car.
I have buddies who run Nitto N555R and have great success with hooking and they get 10k-12k hard miles out of them. Granted these are V8 RWD cars. I do know people do not recommend a radial for our cars due to the extra stress on the drivetrain.
Also, I have heard people run 245/45 on a SS/NA wheels, which are the same size as the G5 GT wheels. I am wondering if this size is too wide for 7inch wide wheel.
So lets discuss....

You can't run a really sticky tire and not avoid rain.
If you want something that is still safe to drive in the rain and hooks, gotta go for a Bridgestone RE71R or similar, something that's designed for max-effort autocross but it limited to 200TW and has to be wet capable. They get super sticky when warm and still offer decent tread life, although they will be somewhat noisy and not super long lasting or cheap.
If you want max hook, you need a drag radial, but then weather is an issue. The M/T is still the king on the street, the Nitto/Toyo is close but they just don't work the same.

thanks for the input Joe. I would like to have something safe in the rain so I guess I shouldn't really run a full slick.
I guess its between the RE71R and 555R. I would like to have something last about 10k miles. I know both of these would be way better than street tires. I am only bolt ons and tuned on stock turbo. So I feel either of these would be a huge improvement.
