Baron7700's Conti ExtremeContact DW Long Term Review Thread.
Hey guys and gals. Well today my tires showed up from tirerack. I ordered them May 31 and they showed up June 2nd. Awesome. So after I wish washed back and forth, and read a ton of reviews that I felt didnt help me much, I decided I would do a long term review on whatever tire I chose.
The Conti ExtremeContact DW is the tire I choose and will be running. Why? They have great reviews from "experts" but only a few of either positive or negative from cobalt owners (they are a bit pricey afterall, and to much tire for a lot of the cobalts here). I've had PS2's Ive had Nankangs, Ive had Kumho's, Ive Had Pirello and Ive had Conti's before, so I feel like I have a decent feel on the Max summer tire category.
The Tires are 235/40/18. I am on pedders, and so far (only about 25 miles) there is no rubbing or bottoming out, which is great.
Anyway Onto pictures and Videos.
Day 1 Pictures
Day 1 Videos: I throw this together quick with just a Flip Video camcorder, and just mashed the clips together so dont get picky about the detail or uniformity of the video haha.
YouTube - ‪First Tire Test Comparison.wmv‬‏
IN SHORT:
6/2/11: Tires arrived. Ride Much better, very similar to PS2's in that they are very smooth and yet connected. Without being broken in they grip much better in a straight line. Excited to break them in and really try them out. Total Mileage ~30 miles.
UPDATE 6/14/11
Ok got my First dig race on video with these tires "broken" in, about 600 miles on them. I launched at 2100 and bogged. While I am happy about the grip, i was pissed because i let the other car jump out. It was a 370z, but I ended up being up 4 cars at 120 (car length according to other driver, who was doing 110 when he flashed me to stop). Skip ahead to 3:35 to see me on the left firs the 370z, who CAN drive that car, his buddy talkin is tryin to stir the pot

Going to the drag strip on friday the 17th.
UPDATE: 7/6/11: I have close to 2k miles on the tires now, and I must say that the difference is night and day. They just handle amazing and ride great. Also, I know its been hotter out, but shortly after the break in period of 500 miles I did several hard pulls (still do) and they hold my power from a 40 roll. Dyno Sheet is in sig, and thats from last october and the old tables, im on a more aggressive tune and new tables - Theoretically i should have about 20more whp and the same increase in wheel torque. But back to the current point, at 2k miles they still hold everything in sight. I can barely sping them in first when im on it. Impressive. I know its warmer out, but most of these pulls are done at night, bout 65-70 degrees out. My limited rain experience with them thus far has been very positive also, no feelings of hydroplaning at all.
UPDATE 8/14/11
After 4k Miles a rotation!!

I've got these on my car and I love them. They're decent in a straight line. They hold corners really well and they never slip up in the rain.
Great choice!
I got lucky and these tires came on my car when I bought it new. (There's a story involved, not for here though)

ya im looking forward to the break in period to be over. Should be by this weekend, as I have some family to visit, and a few other events that i will have to drive about 300 miles for, so that should heat cycle them good to get the release lube out! Then I can do some more testing.

Got any installed pics ?
I was looking at those, but they do not appear to have the lip for rim protection like the stockers.
I like that feature, and so have dropped them from the list. Your pics of the tires themselves, however, make it look like they might after all !
I read where they would hold traction in second gear w/ GMS1, which is the primary reason my stockers are wearing thin.
Good luck w/ them, and thanks !

I should do an update video, as it has been a crazy 10 days since I got them on, and ive got about 500 miles on them so she should start to be worn in.
lets put it this way, my dyno numbers which are now old since I make more, and these barely if at all spin in second. GMS1 would be no problem, and they ride sooo nice.

ya the kumhos sucked ass. They didnt hold power, and rode like crap. To there credit, they did take a beating without to much wear, and for being pretty bald, doing 55 wasnt that bad in rain, any faster tho and I would feel like I was in a wall.
I have pics of it on the car, I will have to load them for you guys.

These things have dropped in price !
I think they were $ 160.00 a pop before - what a deal !
Continental DWS
I am trying to stretch my stockers another 2K or so, but this is tempting.
FYI for any lurkers !

These the are teh Conti DW not DWS. I was useing DW ' s to mean plural, sorry for confusion.
Also i am wider, 235/40/18 not 225, also have a completely different thread, *you can double check in the pictures*. haha they are literally completely different tire and sizes. Sorry for the confusion. Here is a link if your interested, I dont want you getting the wrong ones based off of this. They are also a decent amount more money, like 30-40 bux a tire more.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
EDIT: That may also be why you noticed the DWS *the all seasons you were looking at* Do not have the lip protection, as they do not. HOWEVER, the tires I bought / reviewing are just "DW". They do have Lip protection like the stockers. Again, sorry if the DW's confused you it means Plural Conti DW

Also, I should of mentioned, "my power" is about 330whp/380wtrq. I did 313-348 yesterday while misfiring all the way up the rpm range on the dyno, and yet still put down more than I did last time (clean run) so needless to say the new tables, and now new plugs and 02 sensor, will put me well over my previous 310 (im at 313 hurt!!) and these tires do a real good job of keeping the spin down

i think they were about dead even, but tire rack had them in connecticut (i was in pa) and discount tire had them in texas, so it was a matter of waiting. Also it was when the 91y's came out instead of the 95y's (just a softer load rating to ride better, think its only like 100lbs diff a tire tho) and they had a slammin deal like 30 bux cheaper a tire than normal, so I did that. Even at full price I think they are a steal so far for people who want a great performing tire, but cant give up rain capabilities or have a short tire life.

When i get plugs changed out and some new sensors, ima hit the dyno and track again hopefully, and post up videos of it gripping (or attempting to) at the track
