Wear Rating: for what it provides, 9

Would you Recommend: HELL YES!

Additional Comments/Review:

This tire is just perfect in my opinion. If you manage to get it to lose traction in a turn it continues to fight for traction rather than just pathetically sliding limp across the road. This tire has NEVER let me down. I said it before and I'll say it again, best tire overall in my opinion available for street.

Additional Comments/Review: For what these tires for, they are phenomenal. They grip the road in all conditions and handle like a dream. Maybe more for some of the guys not looking to have two sets of wheels. A good general all purpose tire and a phenomenal upgrade over stock.

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2005 Cobalt SS/SC
Tire Brand/Type: Toyo T1R
Size: 215/45/18
Cost: I got a deal $110/tire (Canadian Dollars)
Purchased from: Tire Warehouse
Current Tire Millage: 2100 km

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)
Dry Traction: 9.5. These tires grip extremely hard right away even with the releasing agent still on them. When it is above 10*C they are extremely sticky, I can launch the car very hard and they hook up right away. If it is below 10*C it seems like they don't grip nearly as well and tend to be a bit "greasy" for lack of a better word. The car seems a little less sure footed. I'm ok with this because for most of the summer it is 30*C+ every day.
Wet Traction: 9I've only driven on the highway in the rain and I had zero problems. They seemed to grip just as well in the wet as they do in the dry; however, I'm not sure how they girp driving around the city in the wet.
Snow Traction: 0 They are awful in the snow. You will die. I got caught in a snow storm the weekend after I put them and your car will slide everywhere, even below 20km/h the car doesn't stop right away.
Cornering/Steering Response: 9 They are unbelievable in the corners. There is little to no sidewall flex that I can notice. Steering response is quick and they feel much more stable then the stockers do. These tires love it when you're coming out of a slow sharp corner and lay down the power. They pull you through the corner exit and I haven't been able to smoke up them yet. (I would say I'm an aggressive driver who pushes the tires right to the limit of wheel hop)
Ride Comfort: 8 They are a smooth tire but you can feel the majority of bumps in the road. I only had 3 months on the stock tires because they were worn out when I bought the car so I'm not really the best person to rate ride comfort vs stock tires.
Road Noise: 8.5 Again I'm not the best person to rate this as I have minimial experience with the stock tires and I've been driving around on noisy winter tires for the past few months. I can say one thing they are much quiter then the falkens I had on my MR2.
Wear Rating: No comment haven't had them long enough

Would you Recommend: I would highly recommend these tires but in a wider size then 215/45's. They have such an aggressive tread pattern a larger contact patch would have been nice. I wish I would have at least gotten 225/40's if not larger.

Additional Comments/Review: Great tire for the price I paid, but I got a deep discount. I'll update this in the summer after I get more clicks on the tires.

Snow Traction: -1 lol
Cornering/Steering Response: 9

Would you Recommend: Yes

Additional Comments/Review: As previously stated... on of the best tires available to the SS/SC with stock wheels...All around good performance, on par with everything else available (excluding Drag Radials). Shows EXCELLENT wet traction. Oh yea, and you will most likely die with these in the snow as well, assuming you like to drive over 20mph lol.
Side note: Don't expect over 25,000 miles with these tires. And expect less depending on your driving habits. I can't emphasize enough: ROTATE, ROTATE, ROTATE!

Falken Ziex ZE-512

Vehicle: Mitsubishi 3000GT
Tire Brand/Type: Falken Ziex ZE-512
Size: 245/40/18
Cost: $130/tire
Purchased From: SFXPerformance

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 8
Wet Traction: 6
Snow Traction: Never Encountered Snow
Cornering/Steering Response: 8
Ride Comfort: 7
Road Noise: 7
Wear Rating: 360AA

Would you Recommend: Sure, for mediocre performance.

Additional Comments:
A better performing tire than average, but not at all for impressive performance. A lot of easy hydroplaning with these tires. Would recommend for someone looking for a bang for the buck tire but don't expect superior performance.

Would you Recommend: Yes they're amazing so far in every aspect! The 225/40 have little rubber and you feel the pot holes but I just slow down a little. These tires are one million times better than the pirelli p-zero rosso's. The cornering is simply amazing.

Additional Comments/Review: The tread pattern is beautiful!

Vehicle: 2004 Saturn Ion Redline
Tire Brand/Type: Toyo Proxes FZ4
Size: 215/45/17 W-rated
Cost: ~$600
Purchased from: Town Fair Tire
Current Tire Millage: 34,000, just replaced

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 8
Wet Traction: 7
Snow Traction:
6
Cornering/Steering Response: 8
Ride Comfort: 7
Road Noise: 8
Wear Rating: 9

Would you Recommend: not particularly

Additional Comments/Review:
a decent high performance all-season tire. handles wet/snow acceptably well in a straight line. you will not have success being even remotely "spirited" cornering in the wet. snow cornering was also sometimes less than i expected. at about 28,000 miles i was blowing off traction in 2nd and 3rd gears on wet roads. handled one track day at NHMS well, with my B&G lowering springs and front and rear strut braces, delivering near neutral handling, though ultimate cornering grip was not as good as i would like.

i have since switched to goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 in 225/45/17 this week. my initial impressions are based in comparison to the toyos and are as follows:

****************

Tire Brand/Type: Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
Size: 225/45/17
Cost: ~$600
Purchased from: TireRack through work
Current Tire Millage: ~150 miles lol

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 9, though i haven't really tried to find out how much traction i have yet)
Wet Traction: 10
Snow Traction: don't know, though i plan to switch to blizzaks come this winter
Cornering/Steering Response: 9
Ride Comfort: 9
Road Noise: 9
Wear Rating: i hope to get about 30k out of these, which should mean two summer seasons

Would you Recommend: hell yes! an immediate marked improvement over the toyos, especially in wet traction and wet cornering. haven't yet had a chance to really try them out in the dry, but they seem to corner with more grip. less harsh impact noise (i assume partially due to slightly taller sidewall) and they seem to be quieter too. normal driving in wet weather is as if it's not even wet out. 1/4" deep puddles are as if they are not there.

****************

Vehicle: 1995 Saturn SW2
Tire Brand/Type: Bridgestone Potenza G009
Size: 195/60/15 H-rated
Cost: $450
Purchased from: Costco
Current Tire Millage: i can't remember. easily over 30k

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 8
Wet Traction: 8
Snow Traction: 8
Cornering/Steering Response: 7
Ride Comfort: 9
Road Noise: 9
Wear Rating: 9

Would you Recommend: yes! excellent passenger car tire for the spirited daily driver who must deal with snow. somewhat soft sidewal lends to comfort, but squishier cornering response until i upped tire pressures. got me through 7" of snow (i was pushing about 1" with the bottom of the bumper and dragging the rest of the underside of the car through the snow) a very little improvement in wet traction would have made these absolutely perfect for that car imho.

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2006 Cobalt SS/NA 5M
Tire Brand/Type: Pirelli P6
Size: 205/50/17
Cost: N/A
Purchased from: N/A
Current Tire Millage: N/A Had them til about 20k miles and they were SHOT

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 5/10 These things were a little poor and left much to be wanted when it came to dry cornering. They had a lot of straight line stability, but ever pumped up to the recommended 38 PSI the sidewalls flexed like a body builder at a body building contest. Braking in the dry is something they were good at. Braking, and driving straight...everything else was a little 'man these things are boring'

Wet Traction: 6.5/10 Nothing special, but nothing horrible here. Once again braking was above average but nothing to write home about. Had a BIG tendency to hydroplane due to the MFR suggested tire PSI. Overall in the rain, I had to dial it back or I would have ended up really binning it bad

Snow Traction: 7/10 These tires are fun in the snow and ice. Beings that these tires come stock on a few sporty SUV/crossovers means that this is really what they were meant for. Predictiable, and you could stop pretty hard on them...but this tire overall was lacking in every other department, and really the price to replace these tires really sucks.

Cornering/Steering Response: 3/10 It has the turn in of a low profile tire, but once you got a few switchbacks going, these tires screamed and begged for mercy. Good for about 4 hard turns in succession then they are tired.

Ride Comfort: 6.5/10 Very cushy sidewalls meant angry braking, but happy bumps. Made no sense to make such an aggressive suspension set up and put these...grandma pleasers on there.

Road Noise: 8/10 Quietest low pro I have driven.

Wear Rating: 6.5/10 Considering how HARD I was on them, 20k miles is pretty good in my books. Rotate them, and they last.

Would you Recommend: 1/10 Only if you get them for free...buying these tires means you do not like to push it hard, at all.

******************

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2006 Cobalt SS/NA 5M
Tire Brand/Type: Falken ZE-912
Size: 225/45/17
Cost: $87 a piece
Purchased from: highperformancetire.com
Current Tire Millage: 5k, traded them in

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 7/10 For all season tire these thing really had some grip in the dry! Thoroughly impressed with the fact that they turn in and hug the road pretty nicely and let you know when they are unhappy. Don't be fooled by the 'all-season touring' title, these tires are pretty fun.

Wet Traction: 8/10 Wow. What can I say bad? Stable, sure footed, no nonsense in the rain. It will let you know when you reach it's wet limits. Are you ready to go find them? Steering response remains pretty crisp even though rain will dull things down. Excellent wet tires let me go close to WOT in first gear in the rain.

Snow Traction: 9/10 Hands down the best tire I have driven in the snow. I had a Grand Cherokee before I had the SS/NA...and these tires made this car just as snow worthy. Fun, predictable, and extremely forgiving. You can't go up a free way at 90 in them, but they handle snow like a champ, ice pretty good, and even surprise black ice couldn't unsettle them.

Cornering/Steering Response: 7/10 Turn in is a little vague. They listen to your steering wheel response a little more than the P6's and hold up to heavy driving for an honest half hour. After a half hour in summer weather...be prepared for the tires to not be very happy with you. Remember these are an ALL-SEASON tire. I had to keep reminding myself that. Gradual push before a full blown understeer.

Ride Comfort: 5/10 AH! That is more LIKE IT! A little stiff sidewall, they let you know most road imperfections, but are not unlivable

Road Noise: 7.99999999/10 Not as quiet as the Pirellis, but damn quiet.

Wear Rating: 9/10 Only had them on for 5k miles...but I did some STUPID stuff in these tires...and they had SOOOO much tread left on them. Hard driving? Pfft, nothing for these tires...look at an easy 30k out of them, even so at 87 bucks a tire I think you can afford a new set

Would you Recommend: 8/10 Absolutely, if you need a winter tire that you can still have fun with in the winter when the snow is hiding, THIS IS A GOOD TIRE. Straight line you can get it good, and the second the snow hits know: You can still get home. Don't expect to set new 60' records with this tire...but remember, it is an All-season tire.

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2006 Cobalt SS/NA 5M
Tire Brand/Type: BFG KDW II's NT
Size: 225/40/18
Cost: $155 a tire
Purchased from: The Tire Rack
Current Tire Millage: 5k, about to be more once I get them on my TC

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)

Dry Traction: 9/10 The only thing comparable are motorcycle tires. Seriously, there seems to be NO end to the dry grip. A little sand? Not an issue. Not exactly warm out? Give em five, and go to town. Best grip tire I have ever driven on a cage.

Wet Traction: 10/10 <-----You see this? Seriously...I am not person enough to find the limits of the wet traction of this tire. It is so high when they do let go you will be in A WORLD of trouble

Snow Traction: N/A These tires are a summer only tire, and I have NO intentions to finding out the snow traction...but probably will one winter.

Cornering/Steering Response: 9/10 It is like having AWD. Toss the car around...and these things stick like glue in the direction the steering wheel is pointed. Like riding, you can only push as hard as you trust your tires. With these tires, I knew I could trust them to my limits, and new limits within 100 miles. Watch out though...when they let go(and they give PLENTY OF WARNING)they really let go.

Ride Comfort: 7/10 Stiff ass sidewall yet comfy as hell. BFG did something right.

Road Noise: 4/10 Loud ass ******* tires. I love it. Reminds me of my 255s I have on my Passport. Loud, but it is the pain of salvation.

Wear Rating: 7/10 Once again, 5k miles of HARD driving on them. Almost no wear. Looks like I will have these next season as well

Would you Recommend: 10/10 Unless they come out with the KDW III...these will be my tire, like the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT is for my bike.

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2008 Cobalt SS/TC 5M
Tire Brand/Type: Continental ContiSport Contact 2
Size: 225/40/18
Cost: N/A
Purchased from: N/A
Current Tire Millage: 3k miles

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10

(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)
Dry Traction: 7/10 For OEM tires...these things are pretty decent on the dry end. Not like the BFGs but most people will hail them better then the SS/SC Rosso. And I will too. A blatantly solid tire that won't let you down.

Wet Traction: 7/10 Good for a performance oriented tire. Nothing special, but better than most

Snow Traction: N/A

Cornering/Steering Response: 7/10 OEM tires can be this good? Hmph. I am impressed. Crisp turn in. Not going to draw attention with unnecessary cornering noise and really you can ride a good rhythm with these tires all day long and they will do what they are told. Listen when they start to speak though, and back off or like the KDW's you will end up in a ditch somewhere

Ride Comfort: 7/10 Just like German cars, German tyres don't do it the best, but they do it all, really really well. Smooth.

Road Noise: 6/10 A draw back. I found one They are a little noisy, but make the KDWs look quiet. Still not 'lettme turn up the radio' loud though.

Wear Rating: 7/10 I have 8 track passes on the front, with burnouts...and honestly...there is A LOT of tread left on them. I am impressed.

Would you Recommend: 8/10 For the summer enthusiast who enjoys a spirited sprint but wants some mileage...these are a sweet choice.

Bumpo

Would you Recommend:
if you want a tire that last i recommend this one, its one of yokohama high performance tires that has very good thread wear, came with a 80,000 mile warranty, very nice tire for someone who likes to cruise and drive around, would not recommend if you want a straight track tire

Additional Comments/Review:
this tire is defenantly better than the stock continental tires that came with the car, these dont slide in the rain, they have nice traction, and the extra meaty tires does help provide a more comfortable ride

Vehicle: 05 Cobalt SS/SC
Tire Brand/Type: Nankang/ NS-II

Size: 225/40/18 (H-Rated)
Cost: 73.00
Purchased from: Came /w my wheels
Current Tire Millage: 30,000

Dry Traction: 7
Will chirp through the gears but grabs the road before you know it.

Wet Traction: 4
The downside is it doesnt like to grab when you punch it in the rain (chirp 3rd gear). Dont expect to race on the track if it is wet.

Snow Traction: n/a

Cornering/Steering Response: 10+
You have to be a complete dumb ass to slide with these things. I've only done it once and that was because i floored it in first with the wheel cocked 90 degrees through a turn at 40 and i still gained control of it /w ease.(dry)

Wet handling through turns is a breeze with these things. I generally push the limits in the rain and I seem to have to slow down to 85 if the rain is over 1/2 inch on the ground. If you hydroplane a little it will easily grab it back. Definitley awesome for curves.

Ride Comfort: 4
You will feel every bump in the road

Road Noise: 3
You will hear every tone change in the road from bridges, concrete or asphalt.

Wear Rating: 340 A A

Would you Recommend:
Id recommend these for the daily driver commuter who is safety minded. I didnt start having problems with them until I started launching from a dig. It will spin quite a bit. (2+ seconds in 2nd)

Additional Comments/Review:
If your serious about performance. These arent it. These are quite alot better for safety and handling more than launching from digs. If you are the occasional spirited driver, and budget in mind these are quite impressive for the $ and perfect for you.

Snow Traction: (shouldn't use on snow)
Cornering/Steering Response: 8

Additional Comments/Review: They definately handle better, especially in the corners, than the stock Pirellis. Wet traction is amazing. The tires are a little noisey and rough on the highway, but this is to be expected. As long as you rotate them back and forth (they are directional tires) they should wear very well (I have 20K on the tires and still have LOTS of tread left).

ok, so I'm in need of tires in a bad way but I don't know enough about them to make a technical decision, whihc is why I found this rather helpful. Looks like for the money I can spend, the Goodyear Eagle F1 all seasons are the way I'll go, but I do have a couple of questions...1-I noticed guys are putting tire sizes like 225 instead of 215...Are you guys on different wheels, or can you fit 225s on the factory wheel(i'm on factory wheels). 2-The stock pirellis are load rated at 93W whereas the Goodyears are rated and 89W....How critical is this in making the call on a tire? For the record, I'm a spirited driver the sees the track moderately anymore if it helps.

Would you Recommend:Yes I would recommend this because they are sick looking work very well in all conditions...Even in snow ive never gotten stuck in these can go up my steep driveway easily...been plowed in before got right out. Only thing is when turning in these during snow a little lack of response but most are like this... and theres no way in hell your gonna be able to accel fast in snow in these.. Havnt had much experence in dry weather but rainy weather they work way better then stock tires

You gotta get 225 in goodyears cause they dont really come in 215 by 18... but make sure you get 225/40/18 other wise with people in the back you will rub... Just put it this way you will feel every bump.. love mine though

225 will fit on the stock rim. 225 give you a little bit more tire on the pavement for a little better traction. 225 is also a more common tire size and is usually cheaper than 215s.

The weight rating is most important for high speed driving and cornering. If you put a 89W tire on the car you need to run the tire with 40psi to support weight of the vehicle in hard braking and cornering.
