25psi Spike on GM Tune

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hlr6ynsWWE

Mods: K&N Drop-In Air Filter, Dejon Hot-Side Charge Piping with HKS BOV running atmospherically, Dejon 3" Catless Downpipe with cut-out, and GM LNF Upgrade Kit.
It was about 65 degrees when I did this pull.

 Sweet. :twothumbs

BRHumbert 01-16-2010 01:41 AM

Nice! This is only making my GMS1 vs. Trifecta decision more difficult!

scotch89 01-16-2010 01:45 AM

wow................

SSlobalt 01-16-2010 03:35 AM

I don't know why you guys think that more boost always means a better outcome.

Whtbolttc09 01-16-2010 04:15 AM

Nice

80vetteL82 01-16-2010 09:00 AM

Yah, Ive spiked up to about 24-25psi with just a Dejon SRI.

You should dyno'd. I dont think anybody has dynod the GMS1 with that many bolt ons. Id be curious to see what it does.

X2 But I'm returning my Dejon DP with the cutout, and getting the Hahn E-Cutout instead. And then I will probably dyno after that.

why doesn't it?

potential part failure aside

Jpizzle- Do you dare no lift shit now?

i heard just a tune plus NLSing can grenade the tranny.

think it was maven who posted a wicked pic of it a while back

DoMiStIc_RuSh_06 01-16-2010 09:36 AM

I would be interested to see a dyno with the gms1 kit with full boltons as well. Since I'm fullybolted, and I'm considering the gms1 kit aswell

Kildore 01-16-2010 10:15 AM

You can NLS with the GM Stage I kit. No problem. I dont have any othe bolt-ons, but i dont think it would be a problem. Plus, if you ONLY have the GMPP Stage I kit, you still have your warrenty! : )

JPizzle 01-16-2010 11:40 AM

Yes I still NLS. And it's badass!

Maven 01-16-2010 12:35 PM

I no-lift-shift my 2.2/F23, doesnt mean its good for it....... NLS'ing put stress on the trans, tuned or S1 or stock doesnt matter, its not good for it and its asking for problems. In my mind I dont care if its covered or not, being down for a week or so while you get a trans replaced sucks.

This.

My superchips tune used to spike higher than my custom HPtune does and I can assurre you my current tune would pull the clearcoat off my Superchips tune. There's a lot more to power than just a boost spike...but yay for 25psi I suppose :twothumbs

Permafried- 01-16-2010 01:17 PM

Man your boost shoots all over the damned place! Mine starts out at 17PSI and slowly climbs to 21/22 by around 3800RPM finally sinking around 6000 or so. No spiking and bobbing like that vid; and I've definitely never seen 25 :).

I think youd be pleased with the tune if you got it, especially if youre fully bolted. Im still amazed every time I really get on my car at just how BIG of a difference it made for a warrantied tune. I mean this car seriously hauls ass now, and I only have an SRI. No, Im not saying my car is the fastest out there, but it is FAST and powerful for something thats warrantied for 100k.

JPizzle 01-16-2010 01:48 PM

Hahaha. Yea. That's the first time I have spiked like that before too. It's crazy! And I know that boost does not equal horsepower, I was just posting the vid to show. I thought it was pretty crazy.

RYRO14 01-16-2010 03:54 PM

Yeah the open downpipe caused the spikes I believe

Its really not a difficult decision in my mind

I have GMS1 w/ trifecta tuned over that. My daily driver is the GMS1, and it is still a night and day difference in going from GMS1 to the trifecta tune (which runs 24psi)..only 2 psi higher then the factory.

But it makes a cool popping sound and keeps hauling ass; it's hard NOT to do it :(

JPizzle 01-20-2010 11:56 PM

Update

It only spikes 25psi after I clear the code: P2096 Post Catalytic Fuel Trim Bank 1 System Too Lean. And then it pulls like a raped ape at 25 psi, then I try a minute or so later, and it holds 20psi like it should....

Is this the ECU not being about to compensate for the first WOT after I clear the code (Kinda like learn down?)

Permafried- 01-21-2010 12:23 AM

Uh, I'd be more concerned why you're throwing that code. If it wasn't so damned slick around here I'd take a video of how the boost behaves on mine with the GMS1 installed. That spike to 25 is not normal and mixed with that code it sounds like your O2 sensor is taking a dump if I'm not mistaken.

Perhaps the sensor is faulty and it's trying to make up for this by increasing the airflow (more O2)....just a thought? Someone more familiar with emissions could probably provide a better answer than me :).

Now you would probably see what I meant, if you weren't banned.

JPizzle 01-21-2010 11:12 AM

Haha. Well, thank-you PermaFried. I do appreciate your input. But the cutout is running open... Which means that the O2 sensor is very close (Dejon's), so that could be screwing me up. But I ordered the Hahn 3" Catless w/ E-Cutout. :) So hopefully I won't have this problem. :)

And normally... I do know how the GMS1 acts. It holds about 20psi (at least for me) and I spike only 25 right after I clear that code.

Well shit, I was somewhat close . The Hahn should solve the problem and I'd imagine once it's in place your boost levels will return to where you expect 'em to be :).

Psytocrophic 01-21-2010 01:33 PM

I kind of have an off topic question.. Do you think having a GMS1 Trifecta or HPTuners will make your car less efficiant on the track (like autocross not drag) due to traction issues, losing control on turns ect ect? or do you think if you can maintain proper speed and know what your doing it will be even quicker?
