brake related?

09 ss tc>Mmm,i dunno, but i am hearing what sounds the same as when your brakes are out of pad, metal on metal noise but kinda of quick on off on off on off rub.I hear it just as i am almost to a complete stop.Thoughts? This can be routinely heard.

Is it a clicking noise?

Bandit1 09-03-2008 05:49 PM

Nope.I am wondering about how abs sounds on this car?Maybe i am stopping quicker than i think. If you ever owned a car you let the brakes go down to nothing and just kept driving it,lol, that is the sound but pulsating.

SKCobalt 09-03-2008 05:51 PM

does it feel like you are getting a massage on your foot (very fast pulsating)?

also, is it only under hard braking?

Bandit1 09-03-2008 05:58 PM

I will have to drive it some more, but i swear i feel the foot massage at the same time i hear what sounds like pulsating metal on metal directly from the front brakes...normal?

MapOfTaziFoSho 09-03-2008 06:03 PM

From the way you are describing it, I would say; "no, that isn't normal".

My brakes a nice n smooth, no noise or pulsation.

I have done one 60-0 panic stop and it stopped WAY TOO FAST. I have never had the sensation of blood rushing to my face like that...ever.

habanero 09-04-2008 10:10 AM

It's common for these brakes to squeal from day one. My originals didn't, but after having the rotors and pads replaced under the brake recall, it has squealed since it left the shop.

Do you feel the pulsation just in your foot or also in the steering wheel?

SKCobalt 09-04-2008 10:56 AM

my next questions are, are you stopping on gravel a lot or pavement. The massaging sound like i is the abs but it sounds like you are stopping really hard all the time. If it is gravel, you may just be starting to lock up the front wheels as you come to a stop.

If you are stopping at normal speeds, I would get this checked out. sounds like maybe a wheel speed sensor is erroring and telling the abs to kick in, especially if the brake is pulsating like that.

Bandit1 09-04-2008 04:15 PM

I only feel the pulsating, and not in the steering wheel.

The manual says i should feel it in the foot and possibly some noise.

This is just stopping in traffic, quickly.I have an appointment tommorrow, but from what my salesman said who is a cobalt sc owner,he said it is the brakes rotors braking in a bit to the new brakes.I dunno, lol. On a sidenote, loving this balt more each day,if that's possible.:p

SKCobalt 09-04-2008 04:43 PM

loving the balt more each day is to be expected and is possible... it happened to me

What does it sound like when the abs is kicking in? We had our first snowfall tonight and as I was leaving work I had an empty parking lot to experiment in. I locked up the brakes a couple times and felt the pulsations through the pedal, which is what I expected...however the sound it made really took me by surprise. It sounded like a real low clunking sounds (I pictured a pile of rocks being compressed by a ton of weight when I heard the sound...clunk grumble grumble grumble). I've never applied the brakes hard enough to lock them up on normal pavement, and since I was on snow there was no tire screeching when the they locked up tonight, so I got a real good listen to the ABS system.

I've driven other cars with ABS, and they didn't sound like this (much more quiet, and less un-nerving). That being said, my daily driver for the last 4.5 years did NOT have ABS.

I'd put money that you have warped rotors.

1WhiteSSTC 11-17-2008 02:37 AM

How cold was it when u notice this problem? I find that in freezing temps the brake-bite really sucks, even after they warm up the bite still feels worse than in the summer.........to be expected??

I'm thinking it may have actually been the snow getting jammed up under the wheels now... This morning it made the same sound as I was stopping in snow, but this time my wheels weren't being locked up and the pedal wasn't pulsating, so I think it was just the sound of the snow getting packed down and pushed out of the way by the tire.

I didn't figure it out last night because the roads were clear, just the parking lot that I was messing around in had a bit of snow on it.

Oh snow... Ok. Either you didn't mention it or I just didn't see it.
