to buy new rims or not with snow tires

So, I am getting snow tires in the next few days since its starting to snow and I can't put it off anymore. I want to get a whole set of wheels and tires for winter so its easy and no mount / remount each summer / winter. So my question / dilemma is...

1. do I get snow tires with a new set of rims?
2. do I get snow tires and put them on my stock rims, and then go buy new rims for the summer tires?

What do you guys think? How good are the stock rims?

I've always gone seperate wheels for winters and summers. Not only is it hard on a wheel and tire to be swapped back and forth but it requires a re-balance every single time and overall I find it to be an inconvenience. In addition, the stock wheels are painted in some form (SC gunmetal, TC/2.2/2.4 clear) and the road salt and sand will peel that **** off within a couple winters of driving.

The bonus to having different sets if you have the storage is you can swap them in your garage instead of having to drive to a shop to dismount your summers, mount your winters, balance and come the spring do it all over again.

I am definitely getting another pair of rims just for the winter, but I am wondering if it would be a better option to just use the stock rims for winter and get a better pair of rims for summer driving. I just don't know how good the stock rims are.

If I could spend just a little bit more to get nice rims for the summer vs. decent ones for just winter tires then I would rather do that.

They are kinda heavy, but for stock rims, they are VERY nice...look up some aftermarket forged rims and you are looking at several hundred bucks a piece.

I would have kept the stock rims for summer, but I had no other options available last year and ended up curbing them a few times because of the snow...

I've been making do with scratched rims for about a year and will be buying some OZ Ultraleggeras in the spring (when I have saved enough!).

I wish I had cheap winter rims available last fall and I would still have perfect stockers...I'd go that route if your stockers are still pristine...it will save you a lot of cash if you can get $100 wheels instead of $350 wheels...

Do it, much cheaper as you can drop a rim size, and don't damage stock wheels.
ALSO changing tires over in the spring is much easier.

exactly, that's what I did. Plus, my stockers are curbed from the previous owner so I'm gonna fix them over the winter and get them powder coated.

a good option is to get a hold of som ss sc rims 18-17" for a few hundred and all you need a is a 3-5mm spacer on the front. 17" would be the best option since the tires will be cheaper and have a deeper tread. plus you can co less wide 205-215 and not worry about that lip haning out to be easily damaged.

Discount Tire Direct may still have the deal where you get $100 off a set of wheels and tires. Drag DR-33 or DR-34 17 inch fit. Not sure about the tire selection, they sold out of most of their stock within a couple days. I had considered putting winter tires on the stock wheels and then buying a set for summer. But after finding out how expensive the stock wheels are, I knew I wouldn't be spending that much money for summer wheels, so I bought wheels for winter.

i couldnt find any locally for less than 1400$ because quebec made it a law to have winter tires and they got sorta rare. last year when it was even harder i got just tires goodyear ultra grips 225-40/18
980 can- just the tires. at the time the dollar was closer 20cents difference and i had abou 70$ boarder fees.... free trade. riiigggttt....

Spacer using the ss/na rim on an ss/tc is not needed. I am the proof

That makes sense; like others have said you can find 17s that pass the Brembos without spacers, there's a thread somewhere around about it. I went with 18s and I prefer my stockers over my winters so I kept 'em as they were . I hate the idea of spacers, even 3mm the wheel is flush with the hub naturally for a reason...but 3mm isn't entirely overkill but I definitely wouldn't go any higher, too much pressure on your lugs.

I have decided to put blizzak ws-60's on my stock rims. And I'll buy a set of the Enkei PF01's this spring.
