I want to make my ugly ass silver radio a nice carbon fibre

BUT

I was wondering something?????

Can you remove the radio face plate off??? Not the silver trim that surrounds the radio BUT the actually silver face plate thats on the radio????

Ive seen a few pics of guys who have a carbon fibre radio and I'm thinking that there is NO effing way that they cut all around all the buttons and knobs.......me thinks that the face plate comes off!

I'm sure that if you took it apart enough the faceplate could come off, but you'd probably really have to strip it down.

 

it will, but I think it would be a PITA.

 

any idea what the face plates are held on by? Clips? Glue???

yes it does mine I swapped faceplates on mine

its by tiny screws

do you have to take the radio right out OR can you just remove the face plate with the radio left in the car????

 

faceplate comes off with 4 screws and some clips. you have to remove the radio from the car. take about 5 minutes to get it out. gotta love cobalt. just pull on the dash trim by your feet, pull the small dash trim to the left of the radio. open the glovebox and pull on the dash trim above it. pull on the dash trim around the radio. (4) 10mm bolts hold in the radio

Gotta pull the radio out, iirc the face plate is held on by 4 Phillips screws then clips in at the top and bottom, once you have the face plate off you have to remove
The circuit board from the faceplate, it's like 11 or 12 tiny ass screws holding the circuit board on, then once you have it unscrewed you have to push on the knobs (knobs are attached to the circuit board and the face plate clips into the face plate) and then once you have done that just pull out the circuit board, then you can pop out all the buttons

Any idea how the buttons pop out, I got my faceplate off but can't get the buttons to pop out. Didn't want to break them.

i saw this item on ebay. the auction ended but the item didn't sell, so chances are the seller might repost, the auction started at * with 7 dolla shipping, so i'd save that seller

 

OK here is the simple solution

Remove Radio

Find Cinderblock or suitable Large Rock

Drop it on said Radio

Done, now go out and buy a Black one

 

OP, just buy an overlay kit.

 

That's the easy way out, can't be truly custom when you buy it from eBay.

I forget which way the buttons pop out, but iirc u need a small flat head to push in a tab, just look at um closely and u might he able to figure it out
