FAQ for 2008 Cobalt SS
The torque on the LNF is almost like a diesel: comes on low and stays that way for almost the entire powerband. I saw the dyno sheets for the Mazdaspeed3's MZR 2.3 DISI and it was the same way, about 280 ft-lb all the way through. That is the reason why the engine feels so gutsy on both the SS/TC and MS3. It's almost like driving my S197 GT.
No, others have noticed but when the original information came out, there was speculation of an automatic option on the Sedan's (similar to the HHR SS). This thread is fairly old. Also, C and D had a best of 5.5. That's about the best I've read from the SS Turbo.
The 260 HP/TQ uses the F35 Sweden 5 sp made by Getrag, (who is semi famous for the M282 used in the Fiero and a couple other cars of the era. Mine is behind a 400 HP LS1 and doing fine) which GM rated at 260 HP/TQ. Ironically when GM released the HP/TQ ratings for the upgraded LNF the uprated numbers jumped to 290 HP and 340 TQ. I have read, and I can't remember where, people were talking about the transmission being able to handle, RELIABLY, well over 350 TQ. GM's safety margins on anything they build are HUGE. If they are willing to rate the trans at 340 and still honor a 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty I would bet 375-400 would be closer to the upper limit. If not more.
