Mine had what they thought was a faulty boost gauge they found not working during PDI. I took delivery that night and was going to bring the car back later in the week for the gauge but before I could do that it also started popping fuses for the parking lights. Turned out to be the same issue causing both problems and was tracked to a pinched/shorting wire in the dash where part of the harness got caught behind a dash support piece.

well....as I would be driving...the info screen read "reduced engine power" then I would pull off to the side and the engine would die. I would try to start it back up and it would not. After a few minutes it would do just fine then die again. After a while it was shot completely....I would turn the engine over and take my hand off the key with my foot still on the clutch and it would still be cranking until I released the clutch. Onstar did a diagnostic and told me that my starter was reading bad aswell as my cruise control. So I did some thinking and I realized it had to be the fuses. They were good, so i figured it was the fuse box or connections. The dealership just replaced the fuse box and fuses all together.......................................... .......................

Another problem.......1 week after I had it the vacume canister under the car blew up......so those could be a problem for others too.

to end... the 08' cobalt may look the same as the other but we are talking total different ballgame under the skin. plus everything is new for 08 and they are still working out the kinks. 09' should be a very solid SS for sure.

if I have any other problems with it I will post, then I am going to trade it in for a G8 GT, lol.

I have heard of this problem on another one on the site as well.

Sounds like a common issue. And not a good one to have!

New to FWD, but at least we've had the Kappa guys doing some "beta" testing on the engine.

The G8 is definitely a nice car and if the GXP would have been out or maybe even the 6-speed I might have considered it, but the new SS is very fun to toss around. You could always buy both. I'm sure GM would be happy.

Vacum hose to intake tube broke off. Taped it up and the problem went away till i get the new one. These engines are in more than 10 other cars around the world so the engine itself has been in service for over 5 years, just not here. As for getting a G8 Gt you don't want that, the Cobalt SS is faster, handles far better and gets better city mpgs than the G8 GT's highway mpgs >> (25 city for me) I had a GTO 2006 and it became a nightmare, weak rear ends and all kinds of problems. Besides, the G8 is todays grand prix, I don't think you want to step to that.

well I hear the G8 is going to have a GXP soon.....like a 420 rwhp car. but thanks for the info. I was thinking. I love my cobalt, A lot. I don't care as long as the warranty covers everything I'm good. I just don't like to be stranded a lot.

I would like the G8, but I would probably just get the v6 model. Nice cars and look good. But I already have a car that can kill new mustang GT's. lol Its funny how the new Turbo SS can kill 80% of cars out there and most of those cars are using 8 bangers, lol. I would definatly like a G8. I like the room it has. It would be a nice travel car and so that means I would keep the miles off my cobalt and keep it in the garage. I make enough to pay for both and still be comfy, so we will see.

They are a lot better on the spectrum than the grand prix.

Grand Prix base price was $18k & G8 base price is $26k.

This is actually normal. These newer cars you tell the car that you want it to start by putting the key in the start position, the computer decides how long to crank the engine until it starts. It also locks you out if the engine is already running.
