Friend test drove Cobalt SS: Trans wouldn't go into 2nd gear?? Common??
A friend of mine test drove a Cobalt SS TC Saturday afternoon. He did a relatively hard 1-2 shift and the car would not go into 2nd gear. He took the car back to the dealership and the salesman claims the 'clutch has to be adjusted.' He thinks its some sort of linkage problem.
The car in question was brand new and needless to say it turned my friend away from it. He is not new to manual transmission cars, he had a 615 rwhp '03 Cobra, a built fox Mustang etc. He is just looking for a fun commuter car but this has kind of soured him on the Cobalt.
What do you guys think? Is this common and easy fix? Rare?

He wants a sedan and they aren't too common in his area. The dealership called him and told him they would have their mechanic look at it and they want him to come back next Saturday to 'run some numbers.' Now he just has cold feet buying that same exact car.

i bet 4th and reverse don't work either, i had the same problem, the one cable just isn't snapped into place under the front cup holders, REALLY easy to fix, i did so myself a week after i got it when i tried a noliftshift and lost 2nd/4th/Reverse, cable isn't clipped in but either way it's no big deal.
At any rate, the salesman is a salesman and doesn't know anything about the mechanics...
Literally, remove the cupholder and stick your hand in there. Re clip and re adjust the cables. This is becoming a common issue with an easy 60 second no cost fix.

lol ain't that the case these days huh?

hey use that for as u'r advantage to lower the price on the car tell them well if the car did that brand new what are the odds of me returning back for other things it might have ontop of that paying car payments lol lower the price at least thousand or 2 lol
i haven't had a single issue since i clipped the right cable down properly, 100+ noliftshifts and no issues at all, ss/tc FTMFW, minivan=FAIL
Never had an issue with this...

I have noticed that sometimes when doing a no-lift from 1-2 the car will absolutely refuse to go into gear. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a problem with the car or if I'm not being as consistent with my shifting as I should. Under hard throttle, however, I can do no lift shift from 2-3 and 3-4 every time without missing a gear.

When i test drove mine it wouldnt go into 2nd either. Had to really lock my elbow to get it into the gear. But it had 311 miles then and the problem has gone away at 900 miles. I credited it to the gear box and shifter being new.
