You'll do just fine. I drive my ss all last winter with snow tires and I outhandled most of the cars out there in the snow.

I drove my ss for part of a winter in Ohio before I moved. I go back to Michigan every winter for a week. You should be fine.

I bought some generic snow tires and threw them on a set of cheap 17s and drove through unplowed 5" of snow. Ran like a champ. It's just as much driver skill as it is your equipment. FWD cars are only second in the snow to AWD. As long as your not RWD or have 400 HP you should be fine.

best car i ever owned that was like a little tank in the snow was a 2001 pontiac sunfire 2 door with the 2.2ohv motor. that car drove over snow like it was nothing. i could turn the traction on or off. never once got stuck with it. then i got my G5 GT and that car is horrible in the snow so i ended up buying another Jbody this time a cavalier for the winter

Hahaha Thats the winter beater I've been rockin for the last 4 winters but it's a 99 . I put 4 aggressive snows on her and have to pass suv's cause they hold me up . I literally can plow threw 2 feet of snow without worry in my superchicken. Plus the 2.2 OHV motor wont die , it's got a buck 20 on it and doesn't use a drop of oil . Only complaint is the rear brakes like to stick when using the ebrake for "maneuvering"

lol i have 151k on mine and yeah it dont us any oil or leak anything. im going to put snow tires on it this year . i have z24 rims on mine the hubcaps drove me crazy with there rattling. i need to do the rear brakes on mine i just gave it a tune up last weekend getting it ready. yeah its crazy how these cars are so good in the snow. my cavalier also has the traction control but there is no button for it like the sunfire had.

Your cars already depreciated to the point where a 2nd beater isnt necessary

I could care less about the depreciation ...... I like to keep the paint on the rocker panels ......and the front lip attached to the car . Where i live they use salt and sand mix so its like a sandblaster . Plus the ice that builds up on trucks ...then falls off in the middle of the road would take the lip and intercooler out within a week of driving it .

Cobalt or not, I actually like my car and I'd like to keep it in good shape for as long as I possibly can. The only part I disagree with everyone on is the whole front wheel drive snow beater thing. Why screw aroung with fwd when you can have some real fun in a 4x4 truck?!?

i had a 2000 chevy blazer 2 winters for my winter car and i drive to much to keep putting gas in it. so i had to go back to a fwd car. i still have the blazer my dad drives it everyday. if they say we are going a huge storm ill take the blazer and my dad will take the cavalier but if its only a few inches i take the cavalier. the cavalier is also better then the blazer in the snow. the 4x4 is good getting started quicker but if i have to pass someone on a hill who is stuck i have a hard time getting up the hill and it dont turn good at all it slides a lot turning and stopping.

really? That sucks.. It's all in the setup of the truck. I have pretty deep gearing in my truck along with pretty large and knarly tires so snow is a cakewalk compared to what I normally go through. Not to mention, it's just way more fun to do mindless doughnuts in a parking lot and do more in the snow than just go gingerly from point A to point B.

1986 grand wagoneer. It went 100 feet thru hood deep snow without a problem. The most "stuck" I go was stopping in a mound of plowed snow blocking a parking lot. I put it in4x4 and idled out. It couldn't stop good but I put it in 4x4 to power thru turns. Never spun or slipped. But 8mpg is expensive

My wife had a new AWD Equinox in 05 when they first came out ....... piece of **** in the snow on stock rubber . Had to go with 4 snows and it was fine after that. The awd on the 1st ones was garbage ..... by the time it locked in you had already spun enough to turn the snow to ice underneath. They should have made it to where you could lock it into 4 high like the old blazers.

lol thats what year my moms is 2005 equinox AWD LT. you are right it will spin all 4 tires and then grab. i was on the highway with it doing about 40 45 mph with snow on the highway and i remember the ass end starting to kick out and im like thats it time to go home. even on dry pavement if you floor it from a dead stop it will let the tire loss pretty good. that awd system sucks. my dad wants to get rid of it he hates the awd he says he wants something where he can put it into 4 wheel drive like the blazer.
