Hydro Shield??

Anyone who is using the Injen CAI on an LNF.. Do you have a hydro-shield (Injen Hydro-Shield Chevrolet Cobalt 2.0/2.2/2.4 for Injen Intake Systems - Air Management) on your filter?
Is it necessary? I have the intake and with winter coming, I want to hear some opinions

It's not necessary, but with a CAI I'd get one. Then if you drive the car in heavy rain or whatever you don't have to worry about it.

Yep me too. Got one on the K&N because water sneaks in between the headlight and hood.

It's gotta be somewhat restrictive

Have you seen one up close or had it in your hands? It might be a TINY bit restrictive but hardly at all. It's very breathable. I could probably fold it up tight, hold it to my mouth and still breathe ok.

I had the injen cai and we get ALOT of rain here in VA and HORRIBLE standing water everywhere after and during and I never had one problem. Unless you live new Orleans and Katrina is about to come back you'll be perfectly fine

It's not restrictive at all... If anything, it's more open right there. Pretty ingenious design, really. Only down side they are poetry much rubber and wear out in about a year... But it's a good counter-measure against hydro locking. Chances are, if water is that deep, you shouldn't be out driving in it anyways.

Actually what I described above was AEM air bypass valve. That's what's really going to protect your engine from hydrolocking. My apologies. What I'm talking about is this:

i had the injen intake and had a vew issues with heavy rain and snow. Hydro shield will help some. I recommend getting a different intake. ZZP or K&N.

I have a K&N CAI, With the K&N Hydroshield, it's useless, In heavy rain... my motor bogs in any kind of boost because my MAF gets water on it

I use it on my K&N intake because like I said, water will seep in between the headlight and hood. Some people have put baffles there but I just did the hydro shield.
I was having some MAF issues and although I can't prove anything my theory was that the water was washing the oil off and both the water and oil were getting on the MAF. Being that it's so close to the filter on the K&N intake.
Like I said, no proof but I haven't had any more MAF issues.

I decided to buy one and see how it works.. For the price you can't go wrong..
Injen HydroShield Pre-Filters - Injen HydroShield Pre Filter X-1037

I myself am predicting a pretty snowy winter here in MI so I don't think I'll have her out much, but it can't hurt right? Lol.

You cannot use those with forced induction. That valve will basically stay open when you're in boost.

For the others in this thread, yes, I would highly advise using an intake cover, even for short intakes. The MAP sensors are very sensitive to water condensation. I have fewer issues when I run with the cover on my K&N. It was absolutely necessary when I had the Hahn.

What else can be done to prevent getting water in an injen minus the prefilter alone? Im running that on mine and the other noght the car was surging and hiccuping the whole time. Very scary. Im gonna take my headlight out and see if waters getting in through the whell well and leaking in there or.something and just tape it off

Water from the windshield will run all the way down the fender and drips right where the filter is. I had tons of idle problems in the rain till I figured that out and put the hydro shield on.

I would highly recommend Hydro Shield. I have an Injen CAI and didnt have hydroshield on and as soon as the rain hit I could hardly accelerate in 2nd and 3rd gear. I pulled the CAI off and of course there was water in the bottom of the filter and all the way up by the supercharger. Yikes! Lets just say I have a Hydro Shield that should be here tomorrow, until then I just feather the gas in hopes of keeping some water out.

I think it does. Just check the dimensions and order according to that. Here's where I got mine.

The link I posted where I got my hydro shield from has a lot of useful information. There is a link on that website that shows what hydro shield is compatible with what air filter and so on.

Have you checked K&N website? They have their own version of the sock type splash protection... Then again, why would you need a water sock on an SRI? It sits so high up in the engine bay... If you got water up to there you're F'd anyways and probably have water in the car up to your knees...
