This seems to be repeating for them lately. They do something really shady, someone complains on here, we all agree it's shady, then they fix it. Just honor the warranty in the first place! Sheesh.

I'd love that, but I doubt they'd do it.

Still waiting on am email back. I'll agree with you guys though, even with that mod list from the test car 480whp seems way to big a stretch at such a low boost "limit".

480hp on a 71 with stock head and cams is 28psi with ported head and stg2 cams is 25psi. So in tgeir build engine to do 480hp would be the the neighborhood of 28psi+

Lets also not forget that their dyno is powered by unicorn farts, so it magically shows 50whp higher than others.

Bost

Also have turbo with zzp evu tuned for it.
turbo fluctuates from 26 to 24, back to 26. Only notice on track when at full boost and race tires.

Im curious as to what psi they warranty the zfrs to. If it is higher than their z54, they may know something that we dont in terms of durability.

Good question. Along those lines though if that's the case with both of them the info should be on the product pages.

my thoughts are they are essetially operating on the 'honor system' when they ask for the tuned boost level, then say that it was set too high for that turbo;
What would have happened if the OP lied ans said it was set to 23psi(?) - would they have called BS, or accepted the turbo?

I'm all for behind forward and honest;
From both the customer side, and from the side of the business, it is my opinion that when you strip everything else away, the most important thing that either parties have is their word - if any party's word is worthless, well, what's the point in dealing with them.

ah good ol ZZP

you could have told them you'd only ran it at 15 psi its entire life and they'd say "thats too much, we run them at 12-13 psi only"

******* shady bullshit.

FWIW, my journal bearing turbo on my STi states max boost at 2.5 bar with their performance thrust bearing. so they can handle quite a bit.

2.5 bar = 36.2594 PSI

Lucky for you, journal bearing turbos are cheap to rebuild.

Yeah, but that's not the point sadly. Worst case I'll rebuild it and sell it and go a different route turbo wise.

looking at borg warners pressure map on the efr 6758, the peak pressure ratio is 4.0, meaning at sea level around 44 psi. that shows a shaft speed around 154k rpm. i would think if borg warner wouldnt warranty their turbos running that sort of boost they wouldnt have it on the compressor map.

now, 23 psi is a 2.56 pressure ratio(assuming sea level), im having a hell of a time finding a compressor map, be it ball or journal bearing turbos, that only goes to 2.6 on the pressure ratio.

zzp is full of ****

Okay, got an answer back. Gotta find time to pull the turbo out to send it to them.

Hopefully they do you right. Don't forget to clean that crap out of your hot charge pipe and possibly intercooler. Hopefully the IC is restrictive/narrow enough that it didn't get further downstream.

Idk if it is a change of heart yet. I just reread the email and it says warranty inspection.

Hopefully this gets sorted out right.

I already planned on pulling everything downstream of the turbo to the head for cleaning after this.

That may be a possibility, won't know until I send it back.
