Intercooler finally cracked

Hey guys, after 85k miles the endtanks cracked on the stock intercooler. Wanted to go to with a ZZP but they seem to be sold out at the moment.....what would be your second choice....mpx, hahn, ebay lol. I am leaning towards mpx but heard they're inlets are smaller then stock, dont want to have a leak
Other mods are K&N SRI , ZZP tune, hahn catted downpipe and Mpx catback

Treadstone TR8 is another to look at. Looks to be under $300 for the intercooler kit without the charge pipes.

I've got a zzp but I've also heard the mpx is good. I run their exhaust and it's sweet.

I run the mpx catback as well...great exhaust. Ive heard their intercooler has smaller inlet pipes then stock intercooler so i am a lil worried the charge pipes wont fit tight and ill have a leak.
If anyone has an mpx intercooler i would love to know how it it

I just ordered an Mpx intercooler....unfortunately ZZP is out of stock for the next 4 to 6 weeks. One last question....if i wanna upgrade the couplers that go from the upper and lower charge pipes to the intercooler they should be just 2.5" straight couplers correct
...not bent or elbow couplers? And i would put 2 tclamps on each coupler right?
thanks guys

if your replacing the stock couplers, pretty sure they have a bunch of bends. If your going to replace them, get aftermarket piping. The stock couplers are fitted to the stock plastic piping. You have to cut them off and you are not going to be able to clamp aftermarket couplers to plastic piping.. Thats the worse idea ive ever heard of assuming you have stock piping now since you have a stock intercooler.

to give you an idea on what bends the couplers would need.... you are not finding generic couplers to fit our cars. ZZP sells these.

if your keeping the stock piping, dont buy new couplers. There are clamps on the stock couplers. Use those to clamp to the intercooler. The rings Im talking about are where the stock couplers attach to the stock piping. There is a clamp for the connection to the intercooler.

If you lift the car and look underneathe, there are two spot where you can access the clamps to loosen and remove them from the intercooler. When I swapped my intercooler, I had a hell of a time because GM had tightened the couplers from some other way where the nut wasnt accessible unless I unbolted alot of the plastic underside lol. In this photo I took, I had already loosened and rotated them into an acceptable position to access them better in the future.

In the red circle is the plactic ring you had to cut off if you want to reused couplers with new piping. Very carefully though as you dont want to put a cut in the coupler...

reused couplers on ZZP hard pipes. T-Clamps to hold them together. You do NOT want to T-clamp a pastic pipe. You will more than likely damage it if its too tight, or pop off the coupler if its too loose.

Thanks for the pics......yea now i remember there being clamps where the charge pipes connect to the intercooler...last time i was down there was when changing the Tmap sensor on the lower charge pipe years ago.....hopefully all goes well with the mpx intercooler install....only issue ive read is the inlet pipes on their intercooler are a lil smaller then stock so hopefully I dont get any leaks

Go it installed very easily surprisingly....that was a perfect right up in the "how to" forum on how to remove the front bumper. The MPx intercooler fit perfect with the stock piping. When i get a lil more $$ would like to do a ZZP upper charge pipe with the upgraded couplers....should fit this intercooler no prob right?
thanks for all the help!

should fit no prob. The intercoolers and charge piping are all interchangeable with the factory components.

If interested I have an Injen IC upper pipe I bought for my HHR SS, but would not fit unless I modified the air filter
