K&n 69-4518ttk

Hey there.
Completely stock 08 SS. Just had a good mechanically sound and very smart friend install a tune from HP Tuners. Currently the car is running 22 PSI of boost and drops back to around 20 as RPM's reach redline. Now.. I do not drive the car hard. I just wanted the tune.
I'm looking at adding the K&N setup. Main reason? I want to hear that turbo spool. Is it true that the turbo will be heard more with the K&N filter setup? For many years I had an 87 Buick GN ( younger guys may not remember those cars:-) ). I loved hearing that turbo spool. I'm understanding that the car may require some tuning tweaks once the K&N is installed. True? Thoughts on my intentions??

I recommend the K&N SRI (Short Ram Intake). It does give you the pssst affect. You are recomended to tune your car with the SRI due to fuel trims and all that because you are getting more air compared to the stock air intake set up.

K&N Short Ram makes the turbo pretty loud and definitely noticeable. Puts a :) on my face all the time.

this topic had been beaten to death.

get the short ram intake system k and n makes. with the drop filter in you wont hear anything. also if you decide to go the short ram route BE CAREFUL WHEN TIGHTENING ALL OF THE CLAMPS. their cheap aluminum is as soft as hot butter.

you will need to tweak the tune a bit to get the full potential and correct the maf trims but other then that you will be fine.

This is very true, I over tightened mine and crushed the crap out of it... Had to beat it back into an acceptable shape lol.

nobody2u 08-27-2014 02:03 PM

Have a K&N, can confirm.

Snail_SS 08-27-2014 02:22 PM

Best intake for LNFs.

CudaJoe 08-27-2014 02:53 PM

My buddy had one and he liked it. He sold it for a K&N SRI though.

Best intake for our cars like I said lol

Omiotek 08-27-2014 04:54 PM

Cold airs suck.

bmartz1991 08-27-2014 04:55 PM

Literally

Shanedude 08-27-2014 04:59 PM

Screw cold air intakes I wanna drive in water up to my chevy emblem. Because racecar.

Colbaltgeorge 08-27-2014 06:27 PM

Just ordered it. Can't wait to get it installed. Thanks all!

Shanedude 08-27-2014 06:35 PM

You won't be satisfied with the K&N alone. It needs a forge unit to go with.

Colbaltgeorge 08-27-2014 09:28 PM

And that is?

Shanedude 08-27-2014 09:33 PM

Forge bpv or forge vta. Check out some threads on forums and see what you think.

bmartz1991 08-28-2014 08:59 PM

You don't need a Forge to go with it, my K&N is plenty loud alone.

Shanedude 08-28-2014 09:15 PM

True, the k&n alone is nice. But a forge vta with a k&n is a neck hurting head turner. I've gotten so many wtf's from average joe. And one thumb from another balt owner so far haha.

Snail_SS 08-28-2014 09:46 PM

Yeah for me the k&n alone was enough was looking into the forge but ill use the money for something else instead, it all comes down to taste

Colbaltgeorge 09-04-2014 10:33 PM

At this point I would settle for just receiving the K&N.. I ordered it last Thursday (8/28) from Jegs. I hadn't heard anything from them so I decided to call them tonight. Well.. It hadn't shipped. The factory is out of them and they weren't expecting it to ship until 9/16. To that I say "thanks for letting me know". I cancelled the order. I just ordered one through ebay and it should be here by 9/9. We will see.
