LED halo projector headlight installation issue

So far I am proud of myself, because I have never dealt with anything when it comes to electrical stuff.. This is my issue... I took my stock headlight assembly out and have three wires going into the blue harness that plugs into the headlights...wires are red, black and orange in that order . I turned the lights on and I took the black multimeter pronge on the fuse box rod for the ground and then took the red prong end and checked the red wire, that's getting 12v. Checked the orange, that is getting 12v..i said for the hell of it let me check the black wire.. That's also getting 12v!!! The hell?! I know all three are not suppose to be hot. So I turn the lights off and just have parking lights.. Red is still hot, black is still hot and the orange is not. I turn the lights off and take the key out of the ignition and check and all three wires are hot again. Wtf!! ..then I touch the Damn blinker light and now that light doesn't come on for parking but will work with the blinker on? I've changed blinker bulb three times and no parking but works with blinker. So... I went over to the other headlight assembly, red, black, orange.. On this one the red wire has no volt, black wire has 12v and the orange has none.. I'm so damn confused!!! I always thought black SHOULD be the ground wire and not have any volt going through it?? Please correct me if I am wrong...now I'm just thinking of checking the fog light ground wire, hopefully that will work.. And splicing into that. Or, where can I ground it on the car? Also.. Any idea about the parking/blinker issue? I feel I have to buy a whole new blinker unit but why would it work as a blinker and not a parking light?

The fuse box rod is not a ground. That connects to the battery + for jump starting.

One of the strut tower bolts is the dedicated jump starting ground but any clean block connection will work.

Behind the driverside headlight is a bolt good spot for grounding. It's on the frame and it's only purpose is ground wires I believe. But yeah that red post on the fuse box is battery pos.

I'm Def going to be fixing it all tomorrow. I'm gonna look for that spot on the driver side, thank u for that.

Any idea about the parking light not working but the blinker working? That one really is odd. Same socket, same bulb.. Onky thing I can think of is a wiring issue.. Since I apparently f'd up the damn grounding thing.

Get the ground fixed then see if you still have an issue

..

Be careful with the drivers side headlight ground stud. I just twisted mine off loosening it a few days ago. Maybe spray it with some PB Blaster and give it a few days to work before you take it off. I had to make a new stud out of a stainless carriage bolt. Worked nice actually, but I was surprised how easily that stud twisted right off.

Well I won't have to worry about the stud since I stupidly have been using the wrong ground spot.. So I'm pretty sure all I need to do is just splice into the black wire now and I'll be good.

Well, in all honesty, I will be mad that i f'd them up but.... With me having no experience doing this stuff, this is the only way for me to learn how to do it. While it was pretty stupid that I was not grounding it correctly, I'm still pleased with what I have done this far.

That's why we are all here to help. I am an expert in many GM areas and some I am not. That's why I ask questions also. I have been in this industry my whole life. GM tech for about 10 years and GM trainer for 20+. I learn something new every day.

Oh wow! I wish I got more into automotive earlier on. My passion is flying. So I'm just late starter with autos.

I got the lights to work. Turned out that red wire that I said was hot was actually not so I had to splice into the orange wire. Now my only issue is that parking light not being on but works for the blinker.

I noticed that one of the brackets that holds the light bulb down into the socket broke off. Possibly this one was for the parking light wire.. I read somewhere that I could fold up a piece of tinfoil and slip it in to that spot?
