How do you tell on a cobalt if the car has LSD besides doing a burnout with it?

Asking because I want LSD on my future purchase.

Also is there a site that shows the differences between 08-09-10 cobalt ss's? Doing a google search only showed me that RPD option came out in 09 as an option. Is anything else different between the LSD and RPD for these vehicles?

THanks!

Open the trunk and lift up carpet, there is a sticker with the numbers of all the things the car has. If it has g85 it has LSD.

Someone correct me if g85 is the wrong code

As for ur other question, I believe USB sunroof and rpd were standard in 2010s and there was no porous block problem the 09s had. But nothing else really I think

I saw the exact same thing in another thread about the G85 and then lots of people started arguing about that. Is there any other way besides the G85? Like a vin # code or something?

Porous block problem? That sounds terrifying. Do you have a reference for that problem? Never heard of it

Well whoever was arguing about it should get their facts straight. G85 is the code for LSD, if u have it it will say if it don't u don't have it, simple as that. Porous block issue happened to a bunch of us who have an 09. I was the first reported problem on this site. Had to replace engine after 2000 Kms from brand new. There is an official Porus block thread. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-10-ss-turbocharged-general-discussion-152/offical-porous-block-problem-thread-265567/

I wouldn't worry to much, there hasn't been any reported 2010 issues.

If you have the vin number the GM customer service rep can tell you the options the car has.

A burnout will not tell you if you have lsd or not....

An open diff car can lay two even tire marks on the pavement.

As others have said, check the build sheet in the trunk, and or the top of the transmission.

This is true, I know someone without a lsd that could get both tires to put down rubber until he got sticky tires, then only 1 would spin.

OP PM GM customer care on here, they can provide you with all the build data

Or jack up the front end of the car and spin one of the tires by hand. If the other side spins the opposite way, it's an open diff. If it spins the same direction, it's an LSD trans.
