I may be looking at an 09 with a 12/08 build date. Should I be concerned and possibly pass on the car? Thoughts?

Saabs use some sort of sealant tabs. They don't do that with the lnfs it's just a straight replacement?

Have you had the car looked at by gm ? And if so are ghey replacing the engine. Or are you assuning you have a porus block because the low coolanf light coming on a few times ? That is a fair amount of miles. I always figured a porous block would cause problems well before 80,000.

A lot of the block material, especially the oil filter cap area, looks like aluminum styrofoam based on the texture. Just an observation...

My contribution to the thread is that I test drove several early 2009 SS/TCs, one of which was at the dealer with less than 100 miles and the LOW COOLANT message was displayed. The salesperson told me not to drive too far with it and turn around. This was a brand new car BTW.

i havent had them replace anything, and per the previous owners records in the owners manual the only thing replaced so far was an exploded pressure plate i think? it was something odd with the transmission..

i am most likely going to take it in within the next week or so for a hub bearing and for them to check the axels...

Oh ok... I get it. You were just saying based on your build date and having saw the low coolant once or twice you were thinking MAYBE a bad block ?

It's funny , because before I bought my 09 TC a year ago I had an 06 ss (lsj ) for 5 years. And every other month I had to add a little coolant to it. It had no leaks. Wasn't in the oil. But about once every 3 or 4 months I had to add a little coolant. But the car ran great and I never thought much of it.

Flush the coolant system with straight water. When all the gm coolant is flushed out add a bottle of Moroso Aluminum block seal and run it for a couple days. That should seal any pores and hairline cracks. .Finally drain water and add antifreeze mix. Did this with 2 porous blocks and worked on both.

Interesting...I'm an '08 and don't have any coolant loss, but going on 81000 miles. Would you suggest this as a preventative measure?

I believe I have a cracked/porous block. Had low coolant, temp went up, brought it into dealer and they replaced the head gasket. Drove it home today and same thing occurred. Do you think this is a porous block issue???

My ZZP gen 2 block ended up being a porus block, but that's the exact reason they stopped warrantying them tho. I took the risk and got the bad end of it. Nothing ZZP did tho, they stated loud and clear on there website it could happen. Also not on them but it started as soon as I put the new motor in so I am guessing that's why the owner of the block the last time swapped it out, which is shitty on there part and wouldn't mind talking to them at some point lol, ok, end of post lol.

where exactly was your block leaking? because typically that should be something that can be tig welded to fix. Ive only heard of porous blocks being an issue on some honda's where it weeped through areas where air pockets were caught in the casting process.

Who the **** is that rich that they can afford to toss a 1500 dollar brand new in box engine block? Depending on where it is weeping from (water jacket usually) the weak spot in the cast can be tig welded to prevent leaking.

Having $1500 doesn't mean your rich.

They leak in an are you can't see, between the coolant passage and oil galleys. Nothing you can really test for either.

Ah ok, wasnt certain about that, the honda blocks i was used to seeing leak were directly on the front of the block facing a coolant jacket. You could watch it weep through the aluminum block while it was running.
