Original Battery

I am pretty shocked to see that the battery that came with my 2008 is still going strong. Anybody else still on the original?

Slowbalt2000 12-14-2018 04:01 PM

My 07 still has the original battery. Idk how but the ACDelco batteries are tough.

ProfDNS 12-14-2018 04:24 PM

Mine just died.

exninja 12-14-2018 04:29 PM

the last time my car saw the stealership they killed it. it'd prob still be going otherwise. my autozone replacement is on year 5 now.

I'm thinking of getting that yellow top Optima battery.

$$$

Well, I want to upgrade my audio system so I figure the better battery should be able to handle it.

Slowbalt2000 12-14-2018 05:01 PM

Thats not a bad reason

Snail_SS 12-14-2018 05:51 PM

My car still has the og but I havent started the car in over 2 months since no trans so let's see if it will come back to life after

SilverSS2008 12-15-2018 07:58 AM

I had a yellow top Optima in my Camaro and that one lasted me 12 years. I believe they got bought out by Johnson Controls though and the quality has gone down significantly. Nice to see others have had such good luck with the factory battery as well!

Having the battery in the trunk and not under the hood is what allows them to last a long time.

Heat kills batteries, not cold weather.

ThePanduuh 12-16-2018 07:41 PM

I just replaced mine. Felt like it was getting weak and didn't want to get stranded. Original battery from '09. Found out the only cars that use the battery we have is cobalt, HHR, and corvette. $128 from my stealership and I won't have to worry about it for another 10 years.

ACDelco 90PS is the part number

Snail_SS 12-16-2018 07:58 PM

I will probably buy another acdelco if I need one

I was in your situation. LDK swap took a month, car sat disconnected. Battery needed help starting, ok. Then it got down to 20F and lights started to look dimmer and cranking seemed a little slower. Figured it's cheap insurance so I don't get stuck somewhere later. Might as well chuck it on a trickle charger or call your stealership to see how much it costs.

cobaltssdude420 12-19-2018 06:47 PM

Yeah my stock one lasted 7 years

tomj77 12-27-2018 10:17 PM

pile of crap battery. mine lasted maybe 3 years.

Kolt 12-28-2018 10:00 AM

My 08 ss is on its original, keep the trickle charger on it when she is put up. The ls is on its second battery, it started getting weak about 3/4 years ago so I played it safe and got a new one.

Should grab a capacitor if your getting subs

cobaltssdude420 01-01-2019 03:54 PM

My stock one lasted like 6 years

06cobaltss/ss 01-03-2019 11:22 AM

when mine goes i will replace it with a delco from the dealer. previous owner put a cheep battery in mine.

Kolt 01-03-2019 02:03 PM

I will probably go with the same duralast gold I went with on the ls. I found a oversized battery with higher cca that fits in the tray if you cut off the plastic mounting lug on one side of the battery. Works great, I rarely ever drive the ls and don't have a battery tender on it. Never had to jump it off either and it has sit up to 6-7 months a couple times
