Partial VIN?

My SS/TC was supposed to have been built last week and I just contacted my dealer to get the car's VIN (need to process the insurance). The dealer said there was only a "partial" VIN... Any idea what this means? I'd think if the car was built they'd have the VIN off the bat, but maybe it was delayed?

If anyone can shed some light on this for me I'd appreciate it.

all the dealership has is the last 8 of the vin until there is an invoice for the car.

And how long after production does it typically take for the invoice?

Close, but not quite correct. More than likely is dealership has the first 11 of the VIN...the remaining 6 constitute a sequence number which isn't assigned until the unit hits assembly...the order is at a minimum sequenced to the plant - it could even be in body or paint; but it hasn't been assembled yet....

If the dealer had the last eight digits; they could get a full VIN....

The guy couldn't have been too far off. The dealership got the partial VIN just over one week prior to the car arriving on the truck.
