I will keep an eye on things. I held a car length on a newer camaro ss yesterday twice from a roll all the way to the top of 4th. I'm pretty happy with it so far. The boost drops right back to around 23. The spikes are brief. You'd miss it if you blinked. As long as there's no danger to manifold and my passenger floorboard doesn't fall out I'm happy.

The BPV seems to make a funny bird like noise in between shifts under full boost. Almost fluttering instead of a smooth chuff. Normal or no? **** is brand new I would hope it's not an issue.

I will try and get video of the sound and make sure I'm not keeping part throttle as opposed to completely letting off. I just noticed this the other day but I don't drive it often.

Piston3 what all was needed for the LDK crate engine? Did you have to swap anything over from your engine like alternator, belt, (Obviously trans), coolant hoses, but was there anything the engine didnt come with that will be needed? I am trying to make a list of things I may need to get for it.

Just finished reading the entire thread. Man i feel horrible about your luck with your car. Hopefully everything stays strong for years to come!
I just recently got conformation from GM warranty that I will be receiving a new LDK motor via warranty! Now just waiting for the motor to ship from the states (Already a week late from their projected time). Though I'm not complaining, free motor and all. How miles did you put on the motor before your tune? I've heard different answers from some mechanics. Some swear by putting at least 5000 km before any real tune. Others I have heard 1500km is enough so I'm not sure which to do.
Considering starting a build thread with the new motor. Cant wait to have my car back on the road and tacking on some KM!

My original engine blew but my new one has a little greyish smoke fluttering around during idle. Oil pressure starts up at 80psi then drops to 60psi after warming up and getting to around 180Deg.
New turbo upgrade and downpipe but the catback is the MPx i had on when the original engine blew.

Dude i cashed three motors through my exhaust. It smoked for probably 2 hours less and less then smelled fucked up for a week. All good now.
As for getting tuned I had 1800 miles on before getting a real tune at PWerks. I ran the ZZP tune and kept my foot out of it for about 1,000 miles.
Car is still running strong. I have even driven it to Chicago and back. Nothing but confidence in it now though I baby it often and it mostly sits in my garage.

Its a complete LDK engine from ZZP. They told me they dont need broke in like a rebuilt engine or something with replaced pistons and are ready to go in the car. Just to drive it lightly for a few hundred miles to let the clutch break in and to get the new turbo broke in before I go anywhere to get it tuned. I have checked the oil after every start up so far (4 start and drives) it looks good, still clean, doesn't smell funny, and hasn't gone down at all. I will check the exhaust again before i leave work to see if its still blowing a light smoke but i didn't notice it too much on the drive to work today.

If I remember right you picked yours up from ZZP. So they didn't have to drain it to comply with shipping regulations. I ran regular oil for 500 miles just to be sure. These are factory built engines that have already been ran on a dyno in the factory from what I understand though. Smoke should go away soon.

Yeah mine had oil in it they didnt need to drain it. So I am going to run that until I plan to get it tuned then I am going to oil change, maybe 500-1000 miles depending on when I can get up there to tune. But anyways yeah they told me it didnt need break in oil but to still go easy on it. I have noticed though that the more I drive it the less it smokes. Or at least the less i notice it.

Got the ZZP intercooler kit and K&N SRI delivered yesterday. Also got all manner of gaskets and seals, thermostat, etc., from CED as well as a new timing kit. Dropped off the Viton valve seals to the machine shop. The head should be ready by Tuesday. I had a great experience with Matt at ZZP. He addressed all my concerns with the tune and I now know exactly why my pistons were exploding:
"Did you know you were running an E85 tune? I think what happened is your ECM trimmed out the extra fuel in the E85 tune, but it was left with a leaner target lambda and also 10 degrees more timing advance than we run in our 1.0 file. This file seems aggressive on the timing even for E85."
So there you have it. Independent dealer sold me a car that looked stock but was overly aggressively tuned for E85, GM ignored my plea to re-write me to GMS1 because I felt something was wrong, and now here we are with a new motor courtesy of my wallet
Anyways, here's some shots of the ZZP intercooler vs stock for comparison.

Wow this sounds word for word the situation I am in and this is great info in this thread! I literally just logged on to browse these motors as I just heard how all the bottom ends where being built in other countries but with different casting methods.
