Bushings or clamps? If bushings are they corroded? I went with solid ones from bps so long ago I'm trying to remember how the bushings pop out.

I think this is exactly what I am experiencing. I have the original rubber bushings in there and I am trying to replace them. I have all 4 bolts off and the right side of my shifter housing comes up no problem, the left side feels like it's glued in place. I've gotten a pry bar in there with no luck; they just won't budge. Has anyone else had this issue and figured out how to get these things out???

Any thoughts on what could possibly be holding them? I sprayed some pb blaster in there and I've managed to get the washer insert to spin. So it's not seized to anything. What the hell could be holding this in??????????

That happened to me also. What you need to do is use a drill with a nut driver ( or was it screw tip? ) and crank the bolt around at a good rpm for 30 seconds or so. Enjoy the smoke show. What that will do is melt the rubber bushing so the bolt can be pulled loose.

I get the concept you're saying, but there's no bolt. Well, there is a nut that's bolted to the stud, which I had no problem removing. However, along the lines of what you're saying, I can take a deep socket, come up with something that will allow it to spin the metal insert in the rubber bushing to melt it.

After playing more with this it almost seems as if the rubber bushing bonded itself to the body of the car.

Just gotta say **** this and pry it out with a flat head screwdriver. Take a few breaks if needed, have a beer or so, say **** off at it a few times and just give it **** lol

This is how I started. I even managed to get a small pry bar in there and it won't budge. I think I may break the shifter housing if I keep at it. This is unbelievably stuck on there!

It was a nut. I couldnt remember. Whatever it was I just spun it fast and it came out easily as the rubber melted. When they get frozen on like that prying doesnt work well

So then maybe I'm not quite clear. Here's what mine looks like, but with the nut removed. There's nothing to grab onto to spin it.

Will the nut come off? Or is it sticking on the stud still after loosening?

That's exactly the problem. The nut is off, that came right. It's still sticking on the stud.

you don't need to remove the upper part of the shifter to do the base bushings

I'm trying to remember how it was I did it, its been like 3 years. I was able to get something to turn that rubber bushing, maybe it was a burr bit on a dremmel at a 90 degree angle from top side? It caught the rubber bushing and started it spinning, and I was cold and frustrated so I kept it going. The rubber started melting and I was then able to pop it right off.

My bottom driver side was getting caught on the threading. First time I tried to install I end up doing only the passenger side.
My second attempt required me prying at it for a good 15minutes at different angles and then it finally popped out.
I used a screwdriver and a plastic fastener remover to do the prying. Bent the tip on the plastic fastener remover but was easily able to bend it back.
Was worth it. Great upgrade.

So you need to turn it while pulling up on the nut?

Maybe that will wedge it enough to get the nut started to remove itself

I ended up giving up for now. I might try and tackle this again later. I figured now was a good time since I was swapping the transmission and had everything already open. I had less luck with those bushings than the CAB bolts!

Go to any GM dealer & buy this. Spray some on it & let it sit for a few minutes. PB Blaster is useless. After using this stuff a few times you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. https://www.ebay.com/i/272888401069?chn=ps&dispItem=1

Would this help with the rubber bushings at all?

wouldn't for my situation. The reason why mine was stuck is that the inside of the metal part of the bushing wasn't 100% smooth. There was a little metal bump getting caught on the threads. I had to pry it the F out. Was afraid of damaging the threads, but the threads had zero damage.
