So as many of you may or may not know i'm picking up a 2010 SS T/C this tuesday that has 135,000KM on it. I was very excited but I've had a few service managers tell me to run away and as I read this forum I keep hearing of more and more issues...

are the T/C's really that f***ed? should I be running the other way? I'm aware of valve coking but what else is wrong with these cars?

It is a 2010. It is passed the porous block issue.
The biggest issue on them is the rear brakes suck and like to make nice and have calipers get stuck, it is a bad design.
High torque in low third gear is a lot of stress on the trans so avoid it.

Agreed buy it. Lube and use your brakes there is no issues on the lnf. They only like stock plugs

The service managers are telling you to run away because of the valve-coking and probably because they have seen the result of the abuse some of these cars see at the hands of teenagers. People like Wangspeed race them on tracks pretty frequently and I believe his car is still holding up.

I don't understand what they would be telling you to run away from? Do any of them own one personally? If not, I would just get one. The only issue I have had is blown motor but that was ******* tuning. I personally don't know what issues you have read about?

By 2010 they worked out most issues, I have 91k on mine and no real mechanical issues and I might be the only one with 90k+ on the oem rear pads never an issue from what ive seen over the years this a very robust car especially in stockish form

Agreed, I had a service guy telling me the 05-07 were turbo and 08-10 were supercharged. Told me they wouldn't be able to do anything because I did a turbo swap...it was stock lmao. Needless to say, I never returned back..

Mine's been great but I don't drive like 85% of the people on this site.

Valve coking isn't a huge problem. You'll have to get it done once in it's lifetime, maybe twice if it ever see's 300k+ and the owner still thinks it's worthy to maintain.

I personally only want new cars for myself, but some people can't afford new every 5-10 years.

Well I can tell you this

The guy that owned is like 40(ish), hes the ORIGINAL owner, he says its mostly highway km as he had a job in Ottawa and had to do a lot of back and fourth work. The car has brand new Michelin Pilot tires put on in the fall, He had the Brake pads done 30,XXXKm ago and had some other misc parts replaced all by the dealership

The car is bone stock, no mods and I sat down and chatted with him for a while about cars and he seems like a sensible person that wouldn't thrash a car around... he really does love the TC, he's just getting old (apparently) and says at the right price he'll let it go and get into something a little more his age.

Sounds like a good previous owner. That is a very good plus knowing it was only ever GMS1. You can't work out a private deal with the guy? Sucks having the dealership get a cut out of this deal.

huh? no this is private, but I know everyone at a large dealership here and was talking to the service advisers bout picking up a 2010 SS T/C and they starting nagging my ear off about how problematic they are...

They are problematic to them because they do not know what a turbo is. Hard to figure out any issue when they are clueless on parts.

I just had a Chevy dealership tell me my Eaton was a turbocharger. I corrected him and he goes, im sorry you are misinformed, but I am GM certified. Its a turbocharger

SteveO. you been here long enough to know about t/c in general and the trends. Especially how great the ecotec engines are. They are great. Especially well maintained one. Porous blocks, brakes, we're the biggest issues. But those are pretty much rectified.

Glad you getting back in a Balt. The tc is awesome. Get it.

It's a base lease, has a million launch model issues and I'm bored outta my mind with it, I already have a taker.

well yeah but I've never payed attentiont to threads relating to the T/C I knew the LSJ and Le5 were pretty good engines..... but I trust everyones opinions here more than the mechanics because I know you guys know the most about these cars and I am picking it up tuesday afternoon

the tc is a good car, 09s has porus block issues. there are some lemons out there that have nothing but issues. but mostly they are great cars. with the amount of km the one ur looking at has im sure it doesn't have many issues. unless there is something they arnt telling you. why don't u ask they why they think u should run away and them come let us know so we can help u more. if they have no reason, they probably want u to buy something more expensive so they make more money
