stock boost levels relative to gear selection

I know i should have use the search function a bit more before typing this but I am curious about something.

I have noticed when I actually bother putting the RPD in my car to boost read out I get the following levels

1st: Boost comes in at about 3-3.5k rpm and peaks at 6-7psi
2nd and the rest: up to 14.5psi boost as soon as the turbo can swing it (typically right around 1800-2000rpm)

I was under the impression these cars would not boost at all in first, do a limited amount of boost in second, and then go unrestricted to design intended output in gears 3-5. I see that this is not the case on mine and since I am stock I am wondering if I simply absorbed the wrong information about how boost is applied or if that this is evidence that something could be amiss. Car drives as it always has so other than what I perceive to be not in line with normal in the boost read out, I have no other symptom.

This car is 100% OEM and as delivered fwiw

ninja edit: boost should come on at the same RPM no matter what gear you're in. There is no boost reduction in 1st gear on these cars unless it is tuned for it IIRC.

I noticed this about a week ago but the RPD when I left it boost read out accidentally. The car has hit as high as 17psi but I was up in the mountains on a roadtrip on a semi warm day when that occurred, fwiw it looses nothing to a stock 04 GTO auto trans despite always reading out at about 15 PSI and more commonly 14psi. I do operate typically right around sea level and figured that's why it never boosted much beyond what I have always seen... just thought there was no boost in 1st...

You must already be too drunk, lol. 20.5 - 23 psi?! I think not, man. Depending on weather conditions, normal boost is 12-16+ish.

Honestly, I've seen pressures differ from person to person. I guess to halfway answer, it would be a "yes." Remember, on a stock tune, the ECM is always shooting for the 260 ft. lbs. It's torque management. If you're boosting 20ish psi in 1st, I want your car, lol. Kidding, because it would be worthless in first.

I have to be floored in first and hooked up in order to see boost at all but yeah, when I repeat in engine power mode on the RPD it always stays in it's normal zone
