Straight pipe question..

So back in December I took my 09 sstc to have it fully straight piped. Before I straight piped it I had a Hahn cai. And before that I had a muffler delete.. Now, my car was pretty loud with just a muffler delete. Then a few weeks later I put the intake in. I noticed the sound was a tad different. It didn't have the loud pop I usually got. I figured it was due to the air/fuel skewed. Then a few months after cai I did the Hahn catless dp removed the res and had a shop weld a full 3"in all the way back. Not muffler.. Nothing. (Flame suit on) I can't even shoot a flame which these cars can with the set up I have. Also I have gm stage 1 but this was put on when the car was stock by the previous owner. I wanna do I trifecta tune. Will my exhaust be louder with the tune. I figured it would since it would fix my air/ fuel. Thanks for reading this essay lol. Any help is appreciate.

Idk why nobody has responded to this yet

I'm not sure if your exhaust will be louder, but the reason your popping went away is probably because your intake is leaning out the engine so there is less unburnt fuel exiting your tail pipe and "popping" when it ignites. Also, the only way our cars "shoot" flames is if you no lift shift, where the engine retards the timing enough that it is dumping out half burnt fuel. Depending on how aggressive you get your tune, it probably won't bring back your popping because Trifecta probably won't tune your car to be as rich as the GM tune.

I have a K&N SRI, ZZP catless DP, and 3" MPX catback with no muffler, but I do have a Res, and Trifecta. My car pops like crazy haha.

Trifecta tune is more rich than Gm at wot. Gm is pretty lean on their tune for this car

Hmm, good to know. Everyone on this forum used to regurgitate the same old "GMS1 is pig rich blah blah blah get a real tune", so I just assumed GMS1 was just on the rich end of tunes for this car. I'm not a tuner so I don't have evidence to support one theory or another.

But I thought we shouldn't nls with anything more than gm stage 1. I think if I ask Vince to tune it a tad rich he could. After all its my tune in paying for lol.

get a trifecta tune and tell him you want to run really rich and make no power, and want to shoot flames because racecar.

I think it's more of a "you shouldn't nls if your power levels exceed the stock clutch", but with the boost ramps people are using today that might not be a good rule of thumb anymore either. I nls with my mods, not often though.

put an injector in your exhaust attatched to a switch.

when you NLS or bounced off the limiter it should shoot a small flame.

even if it does shoot flames it wont be no evo. with antilag

flame at 3:50

cranemaster Apr 1, 2013 10:54 PM

I'm usually pretty anti rice but I wish my car shoot flames when I shifted hard... It would make people fk right off I'm sure lmao

Dart_SI Apr 1, 2013 11:06 PM

someone told me my car shot a flame once, but it usually doesn't. ive been straight piped for about 2 years now.

Calae Apr 1, 2013 11:31 PM

I hear Vin Diesel won't race you unless your car shoots flames

kzak104 Apr 1, 2013 11:52 PM

If you car shoots flames without trying. That's badass. But if your modding it only to shoot flames. That's not rice. It's just stupid. Ha.

cluelessk Apr 2, 2013 12:13 AM

I'm stock with catless downpipe and been told by multiple people it shoots flames on NLS.

cranemaster Apr 2, 2013 12:53 AM

Why do evos and srt4s have all,the exhaust fun >:(

I have noticed our cars are particularly boring in the exhaust side,of things

ItalianJoe1 Apr 2, 2013 01:28 AM

All my cars shoot flames at some point or another. The Cobalt did it on shifts if I hit the limiter. The Z does it usually when letting off after a nitrous pull, nice solid flames from both sides according to everybody who's seen it. Gotta get a vid of it soon...

Even my little daily beater shoots flames:

Basically a relay on a momentary switch that cuts power to the coil and fires another one mounted in the trunk going to a spark plug in the exhaust.
