Synapse Motorsport Cobalt Development
We just received our Cobalt SS/TC today from the dealer. We bought this Cobalt because we saw a platform the has a lot of potential with some aftermarket development. With such a new platform there are a lot of challenges to overcome and we are eager to dig into developing high quality parts. We will start with the bolt ons everyone is looking for such as a downpipe, intercooler piping, upgraded intercoolers, etc. We dont plan on stopping there though, we intend to develop upgraded turbo kits as well for more power.
So with 37 miles on the clock we put the cobalt on the dyno to get a baseline before any modifications. The powerband is very impressive to say the least. The car seems to be underrated in power from the factory. The car layed down 262 ftlbs at the wheels, and 240whp. Here are some pictures of our car, as well as a dynograph. http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...95f991_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...8ac73b_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...2a41cf_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...3b7cdb_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...5c7d1f_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...8b9dc6_800.jpg http://www.synapseturbo.com/gallery/...ed13a1_800.jpg |

Remember street tuner challenge? The s/c cobalt laid down 212 whp stock on the same dyno.
So I would say that these numbers are pretty accurate. |
Synapse? As in synapse engineering? If so I'm running your WG and BOV on my custom turbo cobalt.

So I would say that these numbers are pretty accurate. Either way, the SS/TC should be near that area, just sayin. 240whp is pretty close to what I would expect. The low end torque curve is very impressive as well. |

Unless it was at the same shop on the same day, you can't compare them. I've seen Dynopaks read high, low, and inbetween. You can make them say whatever you want. I'd like to see a stock SS/SC or something as a reference point on the same dyno, just for fun.

well the 260 hp was crank from the SAE certified testing. I'm impressed its 260 tq to the wheels too, impressive, lets get the aftermarket flowing for these cars. I still wanna see numbers from a dynojet or a mustang dyno. Whats average hp/tq reading for the stage two guys?

Sweet its nice to see a Developer go out and buy a brand new car to start working on.
As for it being on a dynopak who cares, its what they have to do testing on, which will help them progress the cars aftermarket future. when it comes to sc vs tc once again why bother with the mud throwing. yes the SC people are proud of their cars, as the TC people will be as well. each side needs to have respect for each other. One day a SC will line up with a TC and they will have it out. of course they will then need to post videos or be banned. my 2 cents... |
i believe we have had an ion redline on the dyno before, im gonna see if i can grab the graph from that as something of a reference.
every dyno is going to read different. its just a reference value to gauge how each change makes a difference. the numbers themselves dont hold much value without something to compare them to. We are a different company than synapse engineering. |

Hey Synapse, want to dyno my SS S/C for comparison to the T/C? I'm sure that will shut up the naysayers ;) BTW, I like what you did with brians Prelude. Man that thing was fun to drive. :twothumbs And quality craftsmanship, as usual from Synapse.
For anyone doubting Synapse.. this place is nothing but high quality work. They know what they're talking about when it comes to turbocharging, trust me. |

I don't think anyone is doubting Synapse at all. The statement was about the dynopack.

the dyno dynamics is a good dyno. it is also a load bearing dyno like the dynapack. very good for tuning.
chris i didnt necessarily mean it had to be tomorrow, just if you wanted to call to work out a good time to get it on the dyno we would be more than willing. Free of charge. |
