TC brakes on the SC?

Anyone given any thought to purchasing the brake setup off the TC and putting it on the SS/SC? I'm assuming this would probably require new brake lines, master cylinder, the whole thing...thoughts?

i think a lot of people have considered it but nothing can be done until they are released. and im not sure what pricing will be but im sure it will not be a cheap swap.

I think for it to be affordable you will have to wait until they start showing up in the junk/salvage yards.

I'm happy with my current aftermarket brakes, but when the TC comes out, I'll test drive one--and if they outperform my current setup, then I'll look into it

To purchase out OEM rotors , calipers and pads are ungodly expensive ( I love the stock brakes so priced replacing with all OEM stuff ) . I would hate to see the price of the Brembo stuff new . Even off a wrecked car , that little brembo engraving will insure the boneyards arent gonna sell em cheap either .

As far a whats needed to retrofit , the cars not even out yet . There wont be any actual cars to see what ya have to do to swap until this spring . Knowing GM though , the Brembo caliper was most likely designed to use the same mounting points and all the lines are likely the same .

I realize the car isn't out yet, was merely wondering what everyones thoughts were on affordability and work required. I dont know enough about brakes to look at our setup, then at what is coming on the TC, and have any clue as to whether those rotors will require new master cylinders or anything else. Educated guesses is all I want

The master cylinder and lines are likely the same . The rotor and caliper are going in a car thats only gonna be on the market for 1.5 years . That leads me to believe the only engineering money spent was on adapting the Brembo caliper and rotors to all the existing parts . I could be wrong though .

Who even knows 100% for sure if GM will even use Brembo brakes? Just becuase the SEMA concept car showed them on it, that means nothing. If you all remember the original SS/SC was shown to have 5-spoke Racing Hart wheels, but GM wimped out and went with 5-spoke wheels that look like they were designed by a 1st grader. Until they actually come out, I'm not believing it.

Doesn't the GM release say something about brembo brakes?

Like I said, if it happens I'll be surprised. GM sucks when it comes to actually using real aftermarket accessories on production cars.

I'm with some of the other guys... I can't see Chevy offering Brembos on the SS... they're not even standard on the vettes.

We'll just have to see when they hit market...

The SEMA car IS the car, not a concept. I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that GM won't use them.

Because GM sucks, and they ***** out on their cars. If they put Brembos on an econobox, and not their prized Corvette I'll be surprised.

Corvette's don't need Brembos. Look at the Z/06 it has what 6 or 8 piston calipers! What would Brembo do to improve that? So why bother?

The TC IS getting 38mm 4 piston fixed caliper Brembo brakes and 12.4" rotors.

The brakes WILL bolt directly to any 5 lug Cobalt. You will need to purchase the two calipers, two rotors, four caliper mounting bolts, and two brake hoses and banjo bolts.

I already have the system entered in to my dealers automated order system and as soon as its available I'll have it.

I dont have any prices yet(they havent been issued) but if anyone wants the part numbers I can post them Tuesday(they are in my toolbox at work)

The only thing I am not 100% sure on install wise is whether or not the 3 current 5lug wheels will clear the caliper or not. I wont know till I get my hands on the brakes or a TC.

They should clear fine . The new 10 spoke wheels were actually made by re-engineering the old 05-07 wheel tooling . The contours are the same , just all the new reliefs in the spokes and V'ing the area in between the spokes . They added a 1/2 to the outer rim width , but the wheels look to sit the same on the new car . So the offset was likely increased slightly .

That's a great idea. To me, a nicely done brake job on a car says, "I actually know what I'm doing". Good luck with the install
