Who makes our turbo? I googled every sort of combination of words to find it. Anybody know off the top?

Apparently its a proprietary turbo based on the k04 made for only GM. Think the difference is the internal wastegate.. i could be wrong, but it is the kd04

As Blazin' said, the turbo unit is made by Borg Warner. Borg Warner makes top quality OEM parts including turbochargers, transmissions, and transfer cases.

The turbo itself is a K04 journal bearing turbo, which is a moderately sized unit. It is lubricated by engine oil pressure and liquid cooled.

Journal bearings... Thats lame I figure they would have ceramic ball bearings or something on this thing. Hell they got money in every other corner of it with SI DI and VVT, why not go for the gusto on ball bearings. Oh well it still spools fast enough for stock.

HAHA Absolutely! I know how to control both of my feet at the same time. haha I learned how to drive stick on old hot rods. They had so much torque it felt like driving on ice. But in all seriousness a ball bearing turbo would use less exhaust velocity and energy to make a given amount of boost. So it would yield, in theory more power becauses the turbo would make more efficient boost. I have thrust bearings on the turbo in my diesel. Basically a thrust bearing is a metal sleeve that is, for lack of a better term right now, suspended by oil. It's not efficient but the huge amount of volume in a diesel pretty much negates any lack of efficiency on the turbo. There is a little bit of method to my madness I think so anyways

I have been searching the internet as well about a direct replacement turbo to mount and bolt in to stock equipment without any modification. I had searched Garrett however I'm not sure on what size I would need the aftermarket Turbo to be to fit my stock components. Anybody know what sizes I should be looking at so everything hooks up with no problems? (Charge Pipe, Air intake, Downpipe, etc.) Any info would be helpful. I am completely stock right now but I do have the K&N SRI on the way and am getting my GMS1 installed wednesday.

You won't find a bolt-on turbo option for our cars. Every flanges are specifics to this car. Only a few companies are building upgraded stock turbos (they are often called k04+), but so far I have never seen one of these outperform the stock unit. I hope to be proven wrong though.

There will be options offered and not just one. I was thinking 3 options.

GT2860 with the stock compressor housing
GT2860 with an upgraded compressor housing/upgraded wastegate actuator
GT2871 with an upgraded compressor housing/upgraded wastegate actuator

Tell me what you guys think...

I was quoted $1050 to $1350 for the turbo's, you send your stock turbo in and he upgrades it with garrett internals and it'll bolt up like stock. His website is www.bnrsupercars.com

Are these upgrades out yet? I think he was having issues with the turbos not producing the expected numbers?

Not sure who you're talking about, but he hasn't even started making the k04 turbo's, he's just gauging interest now. So if you want to see them, make sure to contact him. No one else is offering bolt-on turbo's with garrett internals.

I was talking about that bnr guy. A gt2871r chra in my k04 for 1350$ would be sweet...

theres 2-3 companies that had upgraded stock k04's for our cars. But I heard some people had surging issues, so they need some work and a custom tune of course.

Like i said before he hasn't even started working on them so it couldn't of been his turbo's that didn't make enough power. The disco potato and gt2871 are all proven turbo's, the dp should easily match the output of the k04+.

Ya there were some surging issues but apparently only when you used the stock exhaust, and if you delayed the response a bit down low it wouldn't surge either. For what it cost it simply didn't deliver.

you can get a turbo manifold for a couple hundred extra to be able to run the turbo you want and you may have to modify the downpipe as well but if yolu are looking for more power the options are out there.

True, but most turbo cars (dsm / wrx / evo / mazdaspeed 3 and 6 etc) have bolt-on turbo options. While not the best for all out power potential, it's still a nice choice for those looking for a ''budget'' upgrade.

Its a bit more than that, try $2750 but it does come with intake and charge pipes. Not everyone has 3k to blow on a turbo, the 2871 for $1350 seems like a great bolt-on solution.

The ZZp turbo kit looks pretty sweet. Too bad It doesnt come with meth/water injection. With the added boost the extra cooling would be awesome. But that is always something that you can do later.

I emailed him just to see what he is thinking and what kind of ideas he might be drumming up.

I can start a waiting list. When the machining tools are made then I can call/email the people on the list and get them in on a group build. I will have to be ready for quick turn around that way people aren't down for long.

For now I will machine these 2 housings I have and make sure everything is just right before I start production.

400 BHP is about the limit to the stock turbine housing. More than that the turbine housing will not flow enough.

Bryan@BNR

That is about all I want for a FWD street car anyway with the advantages of the quick spool and no loss up top 400 is good enough for me as long as the price is right and the results are as expected ...

I am going to either be the test mule or something because this is a cool option for some of us who are interested in 400 HP direct bolt on upgrade for not very much money .........

Maybe someone can fill me in on if this is just wasting time and money or if they think it isn't worth it let me know because my build is getting closer and closer and I want to rule out all the options. Right now this is looking better and better as this gets closer to a reality ....
