Turbo Swap info.

Hi. Looking to get some info on going turbo.

Currently the car is a stock 2.2 with an auto. I plan on going turbo with it, but keeping a stock engine and just running low boost.

I need to know what kind of intake manifold I should run. I'm sure the stock plastic one can handle low boost.

What kind of fuel setup should I run? I know bigger injectors. Do I need a different pump, or can I run a BAP?

What turbo should I use? Nothing too serious, but something that wont be a paper weight in a month.

Should I rebuild the trans? (shiftkit, stronger clutches, Stall, ect.)

Thanks for any info.

low boost you wouldn't necessarily HAVE to do much modification other than the kit

So other than injectors, the fuel setup it good?

How much can a stock 2.2 handle? I'm looking for about 300 to the wheels.

You may need a fuel pump. And what are you saying low boost is? I blew my balt up with 210 at the wheels... You'd be taking a HUGE risk anything higher than what i did...

Ok. Well I'm not looking to make a super powerfully street machine. Just looking to make it somewhat quicker. Maybe get about 100hp more out of it.

It's either turbo stock engine, or build an N/A engine.

By build I'm talking cams, pistons, crank rods. Something like a high comp 2.5 stroker.

Thoughts?

You can do the same setup as the Garrett kit had (before it was discod), which is the Garrett GT2860RS with their manifold/o2 housing which will bolt up to the factory downpipe. I have the mani/o2 housing for sale, so all you would really need is the turbo/intercooler/piping if you wanted it.

Stock fuel system will hold up fine except injectors. I would suggest 42# injectors.

Stock internals on the 2.2 can handle ~250

Any of the build threads in this link will have all sorts of info for you:

i was running 15psi on E85 making 115mph traps good for 12sec passes. Thats well in the 300whp range. I do not recommend it on the stock block, mine ended up with a window in block after 5 months.

you could do the SS setup with the K04 that would put you in the 220+ range and thats about as far as you want to go on the stock bottom. thats my recommendation to you.
