Unknown SS/TC Issue. Please Assist.

Hey guys,

Recently I've noticed that the normal lnf engine bay ticking has gotten much louder. This is not a noob question about the stock ticking from direct injection, I know about that. If I had to guess, I'd say it is about 1.5 times louder than the normal ticking noise.

The ticking is in sync to the rpm of the engine, when I rev, it gets quicker. It seems to only be coming from one side of the engine. I showed it to ninja44 and he guesses it's a bad injector. I didn't have this before I was tuned and it only started about 2 months after first getting tuned.

Tried putting the stock tune back in, no change... The car seems to run just fine with or without the tune, full boost, car feels healthy.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like components may just be getting louder with age. Mine are..

Basically I wouldn't worry about it until something breaks. You could throw every part at it in the fuel system and not fix it.

A tick or a loud clacking? You didn't run it low on oil at any point did you? At least log it to make sure it's not knock. Waiting till something breaks would be stupid.

lifter?

wantedSS/TC 09-13-2010 10:24 AM

^^ this. lifter noise runs with the RPMs

Cracked cam follower is my guess.

If it's the lifter, what could be wrong with it? Is there a fix or would replacement be needed? I'm planning on putting the car back to stock and take it to the dealer.

weren't you the person who had trouble just getting their car warrantied when you were completely stock?!?!

if it's the follower/lifter, it needs to be replaced. no fixing a broken one besides replacing it.

The "clacking" is pretty loud and I'm pretty sure it's not an injector now as the car still runs strong. It's definitely not KR so I'm actually leaning toward what Wanted said. When we change the pipes out I'll take another look at it.

Did ya check the belt tensioner (bearing)?....alternator (bearing?). The lifters are hydrolic.
Could be internals though..rod bearing would be my guess..... IF it's the motor.

I know for a fact that it's not the tensioner as I'm familiar with that sound. This definitely sounds internal.
