Is there a link or spreadsheet or something that can decode a VIN number to see what option a car has?

I tried searching threads cuz i thought i had seen something like that before...

if you look in your trunk on the driverside wall there is a list of codes. G85 is lsd on an ss tc. G85 is an lsd and ricaro seats on an ss sc. i cant remember what RPD code is but its pretty obvious if its there or not lol.

 

well this isn't my car. its one i found on the internet and it doesn't say if it has LSD. and yea the RPD is pretty obvious lol but i was just using that as an example of an option.

It's a rebuild , was totaled in VA . It doesn't say where on the car but from the pictures i saw it looks like it has a new right front fender ....... If you look at the engine compartment pic's the inside of the passenger fender looks freshly painted.

Dang....Nicely done sir. Thanks. . I talked to the guy and he said it was hit on that side. had to replace the bumper, headlights, fender and a few other small parts. He said it wasn't a big deal but that could be a just a salesman thing.

What do you think? should i steer clear of it or take a chance of buying it?

 

Well it was hit bad enough to total the car so that means no warranty at all from GM . I've seen other used SS/TC's go for 15-16K with their warranty intact . I would see how cheap you could get it for ......like 9-10K i would think about it...... but at 12 i would pass and spend the extra 3K for one that hasn't been hit .

 

yea im sure i could talk it down a little. But the way i look at is i was planning on taking a few extra grand out to mod it....thus voiding the warranty anyway. Idk im torn on it haha. and i could find one for 15-16...but that means no modding for me haha and the dealership offers extended servicing warranty on it for extra $$$. not sure on the details on them but they are there.

 

If you arent worried about the warranty and the car looks and drives well then go for it . Things can be fixed right ......and not be a problem . As long as it was done right it could be a good car for someone.

 

Just to answer one the questions, no there is no way to tell a vehicles full option content from the VIN.

No there isnt, Dealerworld (which isnt even what its called anymore ) doesnt "decode" the VIN, it just allows you to pull up the vehicle build data. All the information you get isnt stored in the VIN and then decoded, there is no where in the VIN where it tells you if a vehicle has limited slip, or if uts auto trans, or what color, or if it has a wing, or sunroof, etc......that info isnt in the VIN so there is no way to "decode" it from the VIN.

 

Yeah what Maven's saying is you can look at the VIN, where the starts says "1G1AP" and know it's for one of these cars, but it looks like the rest of it is random or has to do with the order the cars were built in, not the options it has.

 

Does anyone have a pic of these codes in the trunk? I'm going to be looking at CPO SS's when I get back from Iraq, would like to be able to quickly check for LSD. Any help would be appreciated.

I can take the VIN and use it in InfoNet...using GMVIS..this allows me to get all the information on the car like posted above...the VIN decodes engine type, build plant, country it was built, year...etc.... you already know that thou

Maven is right thou .... you can't tell options from a Vin besides engine . And Dealerworld died some time ago .... I just keep using the term ......It's actually GM Globalconnect lol. GMvis is about 98% accurate , I've seen it be wrong 2-3 times out of 4-500 vin's I've used to pull the build sheets ..... so i can be wrong.
