Winter wheels for Cobalt SS

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a cobalt ss/tc, so i went into a dealership to get price, some info etc. The salesperson didn't know the smallest wheels that can fit SS and said that he'll find that out and will email me info... so here is his answer

>> There is a 16" steel wheel and tire package available for the Turbo Cobalt.
>>
>> Let me know when you would like to discuss further.
>>
>> Chris

BS or not? Could it be Canadian-only winter package?

Check the wheel thread in the sticky section at the top of the forum, it doesn't seem like many wheels are going to fit. Although I say email him back and ask him for the GM part number on the wheel.

17" WILL fit, 16" will NOT. Someone posted about it, they were able to put the 17" wheels from the Sport model on an 08 SS/TC. The brake fitment is TIGHT though, but a small spacer would be fine.

another fellow cannuck on the East Coast fit the 2.4L SS cobalt 17inch rims on his LNF(SS/turbo) and it was still going to need a spacer. He was going to be test fitting steelies in the next week or so here, plus, unless your in the northern 3 provinces u won't see snow for another month or so. Stay tuned, i'm sure the whole winter wheels thing will get figured out soon.

I don't think 16s will fit around the front brakes, ever.

Just to clarify, I'm NOT saying that they will fit; my knowledge regarding wheels/brakes/tires is very limited. I read all wheels related posts that i could find before going to dealership, so I was surprised when he wrote that 16" steel wheels will fit.

Anyway, thanks for responses, I'll ask him for the part number and will post the response if
i'll get one.

Cheers.

This weekend I had the wheels/tires off a SS/TC.
The front rotors measure 12.4", very large.
Plus you have to add in the caliper.

I will be changing the brake fluid this weekend and will try a see how much room it has between the caliper and the inside of the wheel.

Not much room between the inside of the tire and the strut.
The guy would like to go to a 8" wide rim for a track tire, so this may take a little thinking.

It woudn't be nuts to think that GM may offer a special winter wheel package for this car when the weather cools down. Especially when no other aftermarket compeditor has a 16" out that can fit over these brakes.

edit: Baring a wheel change, you still have options...
