3in exhaust ?

I got dyno tuned Saturday on a awd mustang dyno I put down 260hp and 305tq the guy that tuned me said that's all he could make out of it cause it wouldn't flow any more but if I had a full 3in exhaust I would be around 300hp or more.So should I get an exhaust or just get another tun? I have an 09 ss with full bolt ons

DillySS 07-04-2011 08:30 PM

You got a downpipe? If not, this will be the largest bolt-on gain.

brokeracing 07-04-2011 10:12 PM

Yeah I do cat-less

AndrewSS/TC 07-04-2011 10:13 PM

Wow, is the tuner on here? What are you tuned at boost wise? Anymore info would be helpful. But that's stock hp, with more torque.

Edit I just read you were full bolt ons, something is wrong. You should have more power.

D-mac 07-04-2011 10:16 PM

Who is this Tuner cause he doesnt know what he is doing

3" exhaust only nets about 5 whp or so on the LNF

brokeracing 07-04-2011 10:17 PM

No he's not on her 23ibs of boost 12.2 afr I'm only the 2 cobalt he's tuned the other one had just a catback and like 270hp

AndrewSS/TC 07-04-2011 10:19 PM

You dynoed 260? On 23psi....with full bolt ons.....

Hmm.

brokeracing 07-04-2011 10:22 PM

Yeah I was kinda mad cause we did a pull with the gms1 and made 258hp and 280tq but i did gain more mid-rang power

xodus 07-04-2011 10:23 PM

hate to break it to you, but you need a different tuner... your basically at gms1 power.. with your mods you can be around 365-380 tq, and 3-315hp

brokeracing 07-04-2011 10:26 PM

I no but there no one around here that tunes cobalts

AndrewSS/TC 07-04-2011 10:29 PM

Even though I'm not a fan, your better off with trifecta.

brokeracing 07-04-2011 10:44 PM

Its the only choice iv got every time I think I'm goin to order it I read somthing bad and change my mind

Dayta 07-04-2011 10:55 PM

honostly, the turbo is so small on the LNF a 3' exhaust is not worth it if your looking at it as HP to money

RyanJM 07-04-2011 11:00 PM

Mustang dyno's are not the same as a dynojet. Ask him what a LS1 bolt on m6 or a4 puts down to the wheels since I know what mine will do on a dynojet I can give you idea at the dirrerence. I know the Mustang dyno my friend used when he got his car tuned was much less forgiving the the dynojet my car was on.

brokeracing 07-04-2011 11:05 PM

On a dynojet it would have been like 280hp it's still low but it was also like 107 in the shop

on alot of these mustang dynos you'd be lucky to put down 300whp/330wtrq with full bolt-ons

the best I was able to muster out on an awd mustang was 295whp/325wtrq on 93 octane with a few of the bigger gaining bolt-ons.

you're absolutely right as far as him needing a new tuner though.. :)

as long as you do things correctly by datalogging the snot out of the car before you throw in the towel and call your car "tuned" (and I don't mean 2 datalogs part throttle cruising around for 20 minutes), Trifecta can be a VERY viable option. I would just keep the data cable if I were you so your setup can be tweaked at any time, especially if you ever plan on making any changes down the road. Plus the Traxis cable (aka Trifecta cable) can be used in many other different applications aside from just loading Trifecta tune files..

Chevycobaltss3 07-05-2011 08:46 AM

Ask your tuner is he wants help (Since this is his only 2nd balt).............

brokeracing 07-05-2011 09:55 AM

I tried to get him to look at a tune BYT did awile back on HP's website but that didn't happen so I gess I'll just keep lookin for someone close by so I can do another tune. I gees u just have to learn from ur mistakes

Chevycobaltss3 07-05-2011 10:07 AM

LOL. I can send him a base file!!!! LOL!!! I mean if hes not interested i guess its his loss!!!!......... Where in OK do you live, southern, north, ect!

brokeracing 07-05-2011 10:23 AM

ecot3c inside 07-05-2011 10:27 AM

I hope you didn't pay too much. lol

brokeracing 07-05-2011 10:40 AM

$450 and a 3 hour drive

Projekt 07-05-2011 10:55 AM

I feel for you

Some people that pick up hptuners call them self's tuners. This is the major problem with HPT. Any swinging dick with 600 bucks and a laptop can call them self a tuner and charge soemone 450 dollars for a shit ass tune.

Ouch. I'd be pretty upset as well. Those results are pretty low.

^This. I bought HP Tuners for myself so I could tune my own car when I made modifications to it. If I messed up, it was my car that took the punishment and it was my fault for being dumb. Now, after lots and lots of practice and reading and studying, I STILL am learning and wouldn't consider going out and calling myself a "professional tuner". I'll tune an LNF or LS motor for friends and those who ask, but I wouldn't advertise myself like that. Or even charge that much

OP, I might give the tuner the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe he missed something? Get in contact with him and start asking questions.

brokeracing 07-05-2011 11:05 AM

Well it's a good tune just low numbers and iv seen some of the cars he's tuned that's why I went to him I don't no Wht happened Tho
