Best Cold Air Intake for SS/TC? (w/GMS1)

Performance CAIs are available for the SS/TC from Hahn, Injen, K&N, and AEM...to name a few. I've been looking at what everyone has said about the pros and cons with each product. I saw some early props for Hahn until I read about problems with rattling and problems when starting up and problems with rough running in general. I've read great things about Injen's intake and there's a thread here about an updated product from AEM that looks great.

I can't seem to find a general consensus. I want to do this right and get the best intake available for my car (smooth operation, respectable power gain, clean look, good sounding, etc.)

So basically my question to everyone is: Who makes the best intake for the Cobalt SS/TC (I have the GM Stage 1 tune) and why is it the best?

Thanks for your help

The Newer style AEM intake will give the best fuel trims out of any of the intakes out there without any tuning. Even a K&N drop in filter in the stock airbox skews the MAF 4 times as much as the newer AEM intakes.

Dont waste your money on an intake if you aren't willing to invest into a tune to go with it.

Even with a tune I'd recommend investing into a downpipe before thinking about an intake.

BAD-MAB.com has a nice downpipe for our cars at a great price.

If you're really stuck on getting an intake check out the following links.

Thanks for the link on the downpipe. I checked it out but I don't know what this means: "02 bung (at no additional cost)"

I had my heart set on an intake first (for sound reasons) but the tune argument is valid and I'll probably take your advice and start with the downpipe (and charge pipe, from what I hear, those are the most restrictive parts)

The intake comes with two different mounting brackets.

Yeah because of this site (for good reasons) I've decided to skip intake until after my warranty expires. If I do before I'll get a AEM intake. I'm just going to get

GMS1
MPx Intercooler
Charge Pipes (Injen with upgrade upper & ZZP Lower)
DP (Brand not decided yet)

the k&n should work just fine with gms1 if you install it correctly. fuel trims wont be off by much at all.

I have the AEM and honestly if I could go back I'd get the K&N one

My AEM Surges, flutters all the time

The K&N one I dont think does and everybody seems to love it

K&N FTW & custom tune ofcourse

We have had nothing but good reviews from customers that purchased the K&N SRI.

K&N all the way! But the guys are right, you're going to need a new tune to make it run properly. Go for the Trifecta/GMS1 tune!

best recommendations are either K&N or AEM and yes a tune to get a full benefit out of both.

That just means that they install a place to put the factory 02 sensor in the downpipe for you like the stock one has. Get a vibrant 02 sensor defouler from modern performance to go with that so you don't throw a cel from not being tuned and having no cats. I have this downpipe and I love it. A downpipe should be everyone's first bolt on.

My AEM only flutters on low rpm decel and low rpm gentile accel. So I simply don't do those two things. I have no flutter or surge at idle even when it is cold.

What's the difference in the newer and older styles?

More importantly, if I buy one from say... TTR, is it pretty much guaranteed to be the newer style?
I'm considering it.

Right now I have the factory airbox mod using the AEM elbow but with stock filter.

They should have been off about 12% overall. Which is kinda far off.
