Can you increase boost pressure beyong your wastegate spring with a hallman pro mbc??
 

I am speaking about an aftermarket turbo setup running a tial 38mm wg and a hallman pro mbc. If my wastegate spring is say 10psi can i increase boost with the halman pro to say 15psi?

Hey chris :p you should be able too, as i understand thats the point of the mbc. You just cant go below your spring pressure.

Depending on how much boost you're currently running and if you know for sure you're actually losing boost due to too light of a spring, then yes. Going with too heavy of a spring you always run the risk of creating unwanted and uncontrollable boost spikes though, so just make sure that's truly your issue.

Dont have an issue. I just want to know if the halman pro will do what i want it to do.

Im installing my setup soon and my wastegate has an 11.6psi large red spring. I am adding the small blue 8.7psi for a total of 20.3psi. But ultimately i will run higher than that and want to make sure i am able to raise the boost pressure correctly. A friend told me that you cant raise boost pressure past wastegate with a mbc, only lower it. I ultimately will probably push 24psi or so on 93 and 30psi or so on e85 and will need to adjust that boost easily enough.

On a side note the spring combinations for tial only go up to 23.2psi so i know that all these guys running 24+ on their zzp kits must be doing it somehow.

That's the point of running a boost controller in general. To be able to run far over wg pressure and to allow for a more gradual tip in as opposed to a massive and quick boost spike. If you're planning on running 24-30psi a 1bar spring should be plenty when combined with a boost controller (manual or electric). With 30psi you might (although unlikely) need to up to a 1.2 - 1.5bar spring but beyond that is a bad idea imo.

Ok so the spring thats in it is .8bar and i was planning on adding a .6bar to total 1.4 bar so i should be ok there right?

I would honestly start with the .8bar, see how the turbo and car like it then go up from there if needed. It's always better to start with a lighter spring than to go too heavy. Your engine will thank you.. lol

Will the mbc raise the boost 20psi? I may go as high as 30-32psi on my E85 tune depending on how the turbo flows. I kinda wanna order the spring now while im placing an order with treadstone.

If you install the .8bar spring you will EASILY hit 20psi with a mbc, likely a decent amount more, but you will never be able to go below the 11.6psi spring rate (not that you intended to anyways). You will however probably need your 1.4bar combo in order to hit 30+psi, but you will never be able to adjust below the 20psi spring rate. Now if you try to use your 1.4bar stacked springs with a 20psi tune, all you would need to run is straight wg pressure BUT you will likely have a pretty big boost spike on your hands due to the matching rates so I would personally just stick with the .8bar for your 20psi setup. Long and short of it, one size does not fit all applications so one way or another you're going to be swapping springs at some point. Just always run about half wg spring pressure to desired boost (20psi desired, 10-11psi spring). It's just the safest estimate when setting up your wg pressure. You can always adjust preloads a bit tighter if need be.
