CIA downpipe help. Vibration after install.

I recently installed a CIA catted downpipe on my 09 SS. The install was easy and the car pulls hard, but I'm now getting some nasty vibrations on deceleration at 3k and above rpm. It sounds like the car is falling apart. I got back under the car and saw the heat shield was hitting the triangular flange, so I bent it out of the way. There is about 1 cm of clearance on the one side now. Even after I bent the shield, I still get this vibration but at 4k rpm now. Any suggestions?

i get vibs from my zzp catted downpipe hitting the heat shied. pretty much not much you can do except try ti bend the shied out of the way.

hmmm maybe thats where my vibrations from. I thought it was because of my intercooler. But come to think of it, i played with my heat shield to try and fix it before i installed my intercooler

After spending the past hour under the car, it looks like the downpipe isn't perfectly centered in the middle of the tunnel like the stock one was. Probably just the way it's made, unfortunately. So I bent the heat shield away from the flange as much as I could and made sure the edges of the heat shield were bent away from the body. That took care of about 70% of the vibrations. Still have some around 2500rpm and when I put the car in reverse. It's gotta be hitting the top of the triangular flange. When I eventually get an exhaust, I'll look into beating the shit out of that part of the heat shield or cutting it. Glad to know I'm not the only one with that issue.

yeah i had them at first but i did a full turbo back, after working the exhaust some i havent had any issues what so ever.

Why don't you give Dan a call at CIA. Maybe others have had the same problem and he knows a fix although you're the first person I've heard complaining of clearance problems. Give him a call. Just an idea.

yeah i had a minor rub issue on mine due to the face that when my exhaust was shipped ups bent the end of one of the pipes on the catback.i had it fixed but it still wasent like having a new pipe. so when everything was all in it was causing the exhaust to be more on an angle and rubbing the heat shield making in vibrate. so when it was on the car i had to adjust my whole exhaust before i welded the 2 pipes together.

 Don't buy CIA. Haha. No, a buddy of mine has a pretty bad vibration & sound too.

i got vibs from my downpipe hitting the shield under the downpipe, its attached on 3 sides, not sure what to call it

My catless CIA downpipe works just fine, no rattles, not touching anything, etc. Have you tried to contact Dan from CIA and tell him the problem? He is MORE then helpful with ANY issue I have ever had, even though what I thought were issues were my own errors. He was very helpful and would stay on the phone as long as it took for me to get it right.

Yea, Dan's a nice guy, im sure he'l lhelp you out. This is also the first i've heard of fitment issues for the DP. The one he made me has no fitment issues. I have vibration but I think its engine vibration and not the kinda vibration you guys are talking about. nothing hits the heat shields either.

mine was rubbing a little in the tunnel to not bad though

I get a slight rattle on deceleration , but I just turn up my radio.

Billy Baldone 12-07-2009 02:52 PM

I had the same issue.I unbolted it,put some high temp padding in between the dp and the tunnel and it stopped.A muffler shop should be able to hook you up with this.
