Engine replacement

How difficult is it to replace an LNF engine? I have never pulled or dropped one in a front wheel car before. I am mechanically inclined. Are there any special tools needed? Is dropping out with trans the best way? Any tips would be appreciated. I'm just preparing in case I need to replace my engine due to porous engine problem.

Out the bottom with the trans and still bolted in the subframe is the easiest way

I appreciated your input cause I'm getting the feeling the warranty company is not going to want to pay for it. Plus I don't want the same problem again if they were to put in the same Gen 2 engine. I would rather deal with ZZP and get the LDK. or better.

If I remember correctly, the LNF is not even made anymore and either way, the porous block was a very limited run of engines produced for the 09 model year. So no matter what you shouldn't have to worry about this problem again, but I can understand with the wanting to upgrade something that is broken

It's not hard but not the easiest. If you don't have a lift it requires extra work.

Someone on here got a new LNF via warranty work recently. He was told it was a very limited run and that would be it. I don't know who told him that or how they'd know that. Keep fighting for the warranty to pay, even with your tune. I've done the job before. You can pm me questions.

Warranty on an LNF to this day? That must be a dealer warranty.

With a lift = best to drop out the bottom

With no lift = best to pull bumper, crash bar radiator (ect ect) and roll the drivetrain assembly out on a dolly

Reason being, you'll flat out have a very difficult time getting the car high enough in the air to clear the rest of the vehicle without a lift.

You mean not a dealer warranty? He has said in a different thread he has a third party warranty.

Meh, it's not that bad. Put the rear wheels resting in another set of wheels to get them 6" higher and lift from the center of the car. Then roll out with a dolly. Definitely doable.

Yeah, as long as you can get the car high enough it's definitely doable. Most tend to have a tough time getting things high enough though.

From what everyone is saying I would rather drop from the bottom. I will just have to figure a way to jack the front up high enough.

Yes the dealer sold me the third party warranty. After reading the fine print it seems there is an escape clause for almost everything in the warranty. I gotta try though. They paid for the water pump even though that didn't fix it. Mechanic said it was leaking at the seal. I told him about the foam cast porous engines but they act like they never heard of it. He said could be a head gasket. Well the car is there and I will have to wait.

You might have good luck, especially if it's at the same dealership as where you bought the warranty. Maybe they try harder to make you happy because they don't want people to spread it around that the warranties they sell are garbage.

After being at the dealer for two days I picked the car up today. The tech put dye in the coolant reservoir. Now I need to drive the car around a bit to see if they can find the leak. Take the car back in a week.
