Fuel leak in the 09 cobalt SS
How many of you have experienced the fuel leak? What did your dealers/ shops quote you?
They are replacing my return and feed line today for $800. Sad to spend that much money but I dont trust my own work when it comes to something that could set my car ablaze, especially transporting my 1 and 3 year old to daycare in. |
I did it myself for less than $100. I used the nylon lines and spliced into the metal lines by the firewall. No leaks and I drove a lot of mileage (6k) on them in 2 months before the clutch hydraulics went on mine.

You did verify its the lines and not the pump right? But otherwise that price for a line set from pump to fuel rail sounds about right. It would be pretty close to what I would quote a cust.

pretty sure its the lines. I am seeing the same trending dripping from the fuel line retainer clip on driver side before rear tire. google search showed me photos of the exact same thing I was seeing, wet on the retainer clip and a small puddle just below smelling of gas.
I sure hope when I brought the car to the service department to inspect, they would know if it were the lines or the pump.. |
well turns out I got lucky and my facebook post jokingly mentioning having to return my wifes presents to pay the $800 fuel line repair bill at Porter Chevrolet got the attention of a friend who has family that works at that service department. She got my bill lowered to $470ish. Very greatful for that.

Unfortunately, the fuel lines rusting through and leaking in the driver side rear wheel well area seems to be a common issue on these vehicles in the Northeast/Midwest. I started a thread on how to report the issue to NHTSA in order to get a recall, since it’s a significant safety issue. Here is the link to the thread: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/prob...-leaks-327044/ If enough owners file reports, NHTSA will require GM to issue a recall. At that point they’ll need to replace the lines free of charge and offer full reimbursement for those that paid out of pocket for the repair. |

I did mine myself. PITA maneuvering the line but part itself was $135 from my local stealership and they had it in stock. Needed it done asap so I did it myself.
