Maybe not the smaller models. The BorgWarner EFR 7670 Turbo can support his goals and would be my own choice.

didn't realize it wasn't bigger. but it sounds like it would get him where he wants to be.

Wert842 12-22-2012 12:44 PM

I'll take your 256et.

Yea but then that wouldn't be a ZFR silly..haha

An EFR turbo would get him there like you said the 7670...the only problem I see in going with a big Efr or a s3 series is fitment

09BlueBaltSS 12-22-2012 12:47 PM

Didn't zzp take a s362 compressor and put it on a s259 turbine and center. Little better spool with the same top end

cmiller8006 12-22-2012 01:38 PM

They just put a 200 series cover on it. The 300 series race cover is to big to fit behind the motor. How about a 6262?

Im still not over my beef with PTE from my turbo on my LT1. :thumbsdow

That is sad that the 362 is too big, i just remember that one got matched up before. I did not know it was put into a 200 series :(

noorj 12-22-2012 01:55 PM

HTA would spool way better anyways, and be very unique in the cobalt world

If you want to bring the car back down we can set you up with a custom manifold and turbo that will reach that easily. Your issue your going to have is the motor at that point. On ryans car we had to back off the power because the block wasnt girdled. 30psi tore up the head gasket with ARP head studs installed. Give me a call when you get a chance and il fill you in on some of the stuff we have been working on down here ;)

Ah you missed my post from earlier in the week. I plan on coming down as I have fuel mods and want to build the block as well. I just have to get the time. They canceled all my vacation until june because legislation. Gay.

With the fact a 300 series turbo isn't even gonna whistle until near 6000 rpm, I would go the HTA route. If you really wanna have a sweet setup, look into the larger EFR turbo that has already been mentioned. Would be interesting to see if it fit behind the firewall.

You could get Treadstones manifold and do a 35r series turbo also. That should do 600 HP on E85 easily.

I knew i had seen the s262 make like 715whp by zzp but i cant find hardly any info on the turbo as far as compressor maps, spool time... anything.

cmiller8006 12-22-2012 06:15 PM

And you won't lol. You will need to contact ZZP and they can get you hooked up. But a 259 will do just fine. It will make over 600.

EXsoccer1921 12-22-2012 06:18 PM

yeah i had the 262 on my car. thats what i made the 591 on before running out of fuel. its basically a 362 with a 7" cover instead of the 8". but the spool on the .70 housing sucks.

My headgasket never even leaked and looked good when I took it out. The motor lasted for quite some time without the girdled block at 30 psi. It was the times I tried to go to 32-33 that broke it. As long as the piston clearance is good to take the heat it should last a good while. 30 would be my max on a stock block.

I hate to hijack but could you elaborate on this? Tighter clearance? Looser clearance? Specific clearance that's not factory spec?

AyrtonSenna 12-22-2012 09:11 PM

What internals did you buy so far? Are you building only the bottom end or the ehole long block?

I have not bought internals yet. Just planning the build and then ill start swiping the card all in one day.

EXsoccer1921 12-22-2012 09:56 PM

if you're building the engine. you don't need a crazy huge turbo. get a turbo like the 259 that will make the 600 you're looking for. but have a killer powerband to go with it.
